I heard a comment on the radio today that Sister Leonella forgave her Mogadishu killers during her final moments of life. This selfless act forever elevates her above her killers and all their like minded supporters around the world, and forever seals the higher moral ground on her behalf. Without further ado or comment, I will cede the point at this time that true Islam represents a religion of peace. I will accept the construct that Jihadists, Islamists, Islamofascists, tangos, terrorist organizations, and all similar minded humans have hijacked Islam in order to pursue an aberrant, heretical, demonic version of that religion. Having set these parameters, I will refer to the previously described aberrant behavior of so-called followers of Islam as Demonic Jihad. This shall forever separate this aberrant movement from the truly peaceful Islam.

It is said that a Fatwah is basically a finding of fact. My Fatwah is thus: all terrorist groups, including; al Qaeda, Islamic Jihad, Hamas, Hezbullah, the Egyptian Brotherhood, and all associated groups and their supporters are heretics and do not follow the true precepts of Islam. Individuals in particular, because of their personal testimonies of involvement in violence or speech inciting others to violence include; Abu Bakar Bashir, Abu Muhammad, Usama bin Laden, Mahmud Ahmadinejad, Grand Mufti Mohammed Rashid Kabbani, Sheikh Ahmed Abdullahi, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, Sheikh Abubukar Hassan Malin, and all similarly minded terrorists around the world to be heretics and members of what shall be referred to as Demonic Jihad, and not members of true Islam. This is taken to be true by the testimony of the majority of the truly peaceful and devout followers of Islam. You have given Islam a black eye long enough!!! All true followers of Islam call for you to repent of your murderous deeds and intentions or suffer the wrath Allah. Repent and Allah will be gracious to forgive all.

Congratulations, you are able to distinguish somebody who shoots a nun in the back from the Doctor who treats you at the hospital or the engineer who builds your bridges or yes, the Muslim who gives his life fighting terrorism.

Here is something else that might interest you. A fatwa made by an individual is a false fatwa. Fatwas are made by a commitee called the ullemah or scholars. When Salman Rushdie's fatwa was suggested by Khomeini, it failed before the greater ullemah. Same with the fatwahs of Bin Laden, they have never passed higher inspection. However, that doesn't stop fanatics from acting on them.

There was already a fatwah against terrorism approved by committee in North America. I think this comment coming from Saudi Arabia is more recent. Note that the headline refers to a fatwah and the article says it was not. The word fatwah sells more papers.

"What you call suicide bombings in my view are illegitimate and have nothing to do with jihad in the cause of God. I am afraid it is another form of killing oneself."

His reply was not formally an official Islamic ruling (fatwa), but since such rulings are answers by high religious authorities to questions, his interview was received in the Arab world as if he had issued a fatwa.

Here is the text of the fatwah:

In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

U.S. MUSLIM RELIGIOUS COUNCIL ISSUES FATWA AGAINST TERRORISM
The Fiqh Council of North America wishes to reaffirm Islam's absolute condemnation of terrorism and religious extremism.

Islam strictly condemns religious extremism and the use of violence against innocent lives. There is no justification in Islam for extremism or terrorism. Targeting civilians’ life and property through suicide bombings or any other method of attack is haram – or forbidden - and those who commit these barbaric acts are criminals, not “martyrs.”

The Qur’an, Islam’s revealed text, states: "Whoever kills a person [unjustly]…it is as though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind."
(Qur’an, 5:32)

Prophet Muhammad said there is no excuse for committing unjust acts: "Do not be people without minds of your own, saying that if others treat you well you will treat them well, and that if they do wrong you will do wrong to them. Instead, accustom yourselves to do good if people do good and not to do wrong (even) if they do evil." (Al-Tirmidhi)

God mandates moderation in faith and in all aspects of life when He states in the Qur’an: “We made you to be a community of the middle way, so that (with the example of your lives) you might bear witness to the truth before all mankind.” (Qur’an, 2:143)

In another verse, God explains our duties as human beings when he says: “Let there arise from among you a band of people who invite to righteousness, and enjoin good and forbid evil.” (Qur’an, 3:104)

Islam teaches us to act in a caring manner to all of God's creation. The Prophet Muhammad, who is described in the Qur’an as “a mercy to the worlds” said: “All creation is the family of God, and the person most beloved by God (is the one) who is kind and caring toward His family."

In the light of the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah we clearly and strongly state:
1. All acts of terrorism targeting civilians are haram (forbidden) in Islam.
2. It is haram for a Muslim to cooperate with any individual or group that is involved in any act of terrorism or violence.
3. It is the civic and religious duty of Muslims to cooperate with law enforcement authorities to protect the lives of all civilians.
We issue this fatwa following the guidance of our scripture, the Qur’an, and the teachings of our Prophet Muhammad – peace be upon him. We urge all people to resolve all conflicts in just and peaceful manners.
We pray for the defeat of extremism and terrorism. We pray for the safety and security of our country, the United States, and its people. We pray for the safety and security of all inhabitants of our planet. We pray that interfaith harmony and cooperation prevail both in the United States and all around the globe.

Then again, how could you know that such a document already exists?
