On the front page, we have a feature whereby any posts that mention you are brought to your attention by lighting up an icon at the top of the page. The icon tells you how many new messages mention you and links you to a list of those messages on a separate page.
This feature was built a long time ago and is used by many members, but it might have been rendered inactive when we upgraded the forum software in March.
The new forum software changed the way that it automatically recognizes users, and that "recognition" was no longer available to other parts of our site (like the front page). In many cases, this did not affect our members, but in some cases it did.
We happened to come across this setting yesterday by chance and changed it back to the way it should have been configured by the new software in the first place.
So, if you are active in forum discussions, this feature should be very helpful to you, because it basically tells you in a flash whether anyone replied to your latest posts. It is intended to function like the "You've got mail" announcement on AOL.
