I just got this email today from Red Ken's reelection campaign (don't know why). At any rate he's pretty plain spoken. You should vote for him because he's against Israel and should not vote for Boris Johnson because he is.....for Mayor of London, mind you.

Dear Brothers, Sisters, Friends & Colleagues,

May the Peace and Blessings of God be Upon You.

London is one of the largest cities in the World with a Muslim population in excess of 800,000 people.

The stakes for Muslims in London could not be higher. Polls show Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson almost neck and neck, it's going to be a very close race. Every vote matters. Use your vote on 1 May.

The choice is clear. Make your voice heard.

The British Muslim Initiative urges all Londoners not to split their vote and choose Ken Livingstone as their 1st Option on the ballot paper for Mayor on May 1st.

If you are in London then please pass this email on to your friends and family to get them to vote. If you are outside London, then forward this to any friends or family that you know of in London.

5 REASONS TO VOTE FOR KEN LIVINGSTONE

1. LONG-TIME SUPPORTER OF MUSLIMS; CAMPAIGNER AGAINST ISLAMOPHOBIA
"The attack on Muslims threatens freedoms for all of us. Every person who values their right to follow the religion of their choice or none should stand with the Muslim communities today." The Guardian, 20th November 2006

2. SUPPORTS AND CELEBRATES DIVERSITY & MULTICULTURALISM IN LONDON
"I am proud of London's reputation as the most diverse city in the world where the contribution of all communities is celebrated"

3. OPPOSED THE WAR IN IRAQ
"It is evident that the war in Iraq was not justified. It has made the situation worse. The illusions with which it was launched are collapsing."

4. STAUNCH SUPPORTER OF THE RIGHTS OF THE PALESTINIANS
"The hypocrisy towards the Palestinian people is breathtaking. Repeated United Nations resolutions against the illegal occupation of Palestinian lands are not implemented and horrendous crimes against innocent civilians are systematically ignored. Without justice for Palestine, there will be no lasting settlement in the Middle East."

5. CAMPAIGNER AGAINST RACISM
"All racist and anti-Semitic attacks must be stamped out. However, the reality is that the great bulk of racist attacks in Europe today are on black people, Asians and Muslims - and they are the primary targets of the extreme right."

5 REASONS NOT TO VOTE FOR BORIS JOHNSON

1. INSULTS ISLAM & MUSLIMS
"To any non-Muslim reader of the Koran, Islamophobia seems a natural reaction.. . Judged purely on its scripture - to say nothing of what is preached in the mosques - it is the most viciously sectarian of all religions." (Spectator 16th July 2005)

The proposed ban on incitement to "religious hatred" makes no sense unless it involves a ban on the Koran itself." (Telegraph 21/07/2005)

"Islam will only be truly acculturated to our way of life when you could expect a Bradford audience to roll in the aisles at Monty Python's Life of Mohammed." (Telegraph 21/07/2005)

2. HOLDS RACIST VIEWS
Referred to black people as 'picaninnies' 'with watermelon smiles' (Daily Telegraph, 10/01/02)

In addition, the BNP have told their supporters to give him the 2nd vote on the Mayoral ballot paper - shows how close they think his policies are to them!

3. FANATICALLY SUPPORTED THE WAR ON IRAQ & CAMPAIGNED FOR GEORGE W BUSH
If we know the Pentagon, there must be a very good chance that this will be an outstandingly successful and stress-free war."

4. STAUNCH SUPPORTER OF ISRAEL
"If I were an Israeli, I would be astounded that any member of the British Government or Opposition felt able to criticise Israel at all." (The Telegraph, 03/08/2006)

"If we were Israelis... we would dispatch an American-built ground-assault helicopter and blow the place to bits. Then we would send in bulldozers to scraape over the remains, and we would do the same to all the other houses in the area... After decades of deranged attacks the Israelis have come to the conclusion that this is the best way to deter Palestinian families from nurturing these vipers in their bosoms, and also the best way of explaining to the death-hungry narcissists that they may get the 72 black-eyed virgins of scripture, but their family gets the bulldozer." (The Spectator, 16th July 2005)

5. MOCKS DIVERSITY & TOLERANCE
"We must begin the re-Britannification of Britain"

The choice is clear.
Make your voice heard.

Again I don't know why I got this or how this differs from any other Red Ken mailings, but there it is.

Before they talk about anti-semitism they should first resolve it in their mist first. Boring!

Just a bunch of Arab idiots.

I will be voting for Boris Johnson. :)

Well, we know who the Red Ken is. Who is Boris Johnson? What's he about? Just because he's not kooky about Jews and Israel, doesn't necessarily mean he's a good guy.

I do tend to think that we should chose our friends carefully. There are some racist groups in the US that are very "pro-Israel" (whatever that means). That doesn't mean they are any friends of mine or that I'll be voting for their representatives.

I don't particularly care. You don't find too many people around this world who support Jews for being JEWISH. And if such groups do come up for some reason we reject them out of principle. Sorry- I don't have these principles. Too many people want our blood and I need as many friends as possible no matter how dubious.

If Osama bin Ladin were running for mayor of any city with a large Muslim population, he'd win. Since he's not (officially) running, Ken Livingstone -- a close substitute for bin Ladin -- will get the overwhelming Muslim vote.

Boris Johnson isn't in the slightest bit controversial imo. He has admitted to smoking a spliff when he was younger (but didn't inhale  ) and he has said some vaguely pro-British things (that isn't a crime - yet). I think he basically said something about Islam that wasn't 100% positive. These are 'sins' that I can forgive him for. Compare this to Red Ken who is a Jew-hating communist who is for high taxation with minimal reward and likes to tax the middle earners to reward the feckless and workshy. He'll probably win seeing as he'll get the muslim vote but he's not popular with anyone who isn't a) muslim b) a communist c) a Jew-hater.

Boris also has funny hair but I don't think that is a crime and he's certainly not aryan.

Well if one is a Jew hater, obsessed with left-wing idiocy and terrorists, and the other guy just wants to be...Mayor of London...then I'd say it's safe to say you should vote for the other guy.

And what "racist" groups in the US are pro-Israel???

Livingston will probably win, his record on issues such as housing and transport sits favourably with many Londoners, and despite having suicide promoting nut-jobs on his advisory board he will get the votes of the left, even those members of the left who hate him and spend a good deal of time complaining about his readiness to pander to far right fundies. The only thing that'll stop them voting for him would be if he joined the Tory party.

Boris is bloody funny however, that goes a long way.

I have to admit that I don't understand the situation in London that's given rise to Red Ken. Is London basically a Pakistani colony, or are the vast majority of Londoners raving Leftists?

Kenneth

I'm sure it was a mix of different things that gave him the position in 2004, he got 55% of the vote in the 2nd round (the conservative party's Steve Norris got 44%). Livingston is seen as the champion of multiculturalism and modernity, he's attended and organised several Islamic events in London, commissioned reports on anti-Islamic bias in the media and likes to fling the term Islamophobe around with great abandon.

The Tories - bless their little Oxford educated noggins - are still seen by many "progressive" types as flag saluting politically incorrect buffoons of a bygone era. It's not true of course, they have many fine characters but to be honest they have not been much of an opposition party for sometime now. Nothing yet grows in Thatcher's shadow.

Livingston's popularity with Muslims in London (40% or so originate from Pakistan) sky-rocketed when he spoke openly against the Iraq war and criticised Ariel Sharon & Israel. His pandering to controversial characters such as Yusuf al-Qaradawi, Azzam Tamimi (one of his advisers and a nasty little fecker too boot), Tariq Ramadan and many more only made him more popular and although the dirt on some of these people has come out for all to see you might think that this would lose Ken some votes within the Left but no, they'll whine and moan but they won't vote Tory, not now not ever.

But what it will come down to on voting day will be transport, housing and other such citywide issues, the rest will be froth.

Makes sense. For some reason, supporting Palestinian terrorism and opposing free speech have become symbols of modernity for the Left.

Islamophobe = Those who fear Islamic terrorism and/or oppose living under a Muslim theocratic regime. Terrible to be called that...

I can see why Red Ken is so well liked in London.

But the Pakistanis and their Leftist apologists are no doubt working hard to make it a crime very soon.

Ah, yes, I've suspected for some time now that Red Ken is running for the US presidency under the pseudonym 'Barack Obama.' :)

http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23478770-details/Suicide+bomb+backer+leads+group+trying+to+win+Musl im+votes+for+Ken+Livingstone/article.do

An advocate of suicide bombing is among leaders of a group trying to mobilise Muslim voters to back Ken Livingstone, it was reported today.

For the past year, the group has been working on a strategy to win an estimated 200,000 Muslim votes in an effort to re-elect the Mayor, the Evening Standard claims.

It includes a campaign of vilification aimed at his Conservative rival, Boris Johnson. It is being waged by Muslims 4 Ken, led by 39-year-old lecturer Anas Altikriti and Palestinian-born Azzam Tamimi, a supporter of Hamas, the militant group dedicated to the creation of an Islamic state of Palestine.

While Mr Altikriti says he abhors violence and favours dialogue to further the Muslim cause, Mr Tamimi has praised suicide bombers and said he would volunteer for a suicide mission in Palestine.

"For us Muslims martyrdom is not the end of things, but the beginning of the most wonderful of things," he has said. "If I can go to Palestine and sacrifice myself I would do it. Why not?"

Muslims 4 Ken moves into overdrive this week after months of lobbying for Mr Livingstone among Muslim community leaders, in mosques and among political organisations.

The Islamic alliance backing the Mayor is based in east London and has already drawn on wide support from the area's Bangladeshi community. Muslims 4 Ken grew from Mr Livingstone's links with activists and his generous sponsorship of Muslim causes.

Mr Altikriti was instrumental in the Mayor's patronage of Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the Islamic cleric who was welcomed by Mr Livingstone to City Hall.

The Mayor's critics believe his praise of Mr al-Qaradawi was part of a cynical plan to exploit the Muslim vote.

Mr al-Qaradawi is banned from Britain over fears his presence may not be conducive to "security and peace".

The last two weeks of the election campaign will see a sustained attack on Mr Johnson based on claims that he is anti-Islam. Volunteers have been supplied with quotes from his journalism over the past 15 years in which he appears to be critical of Islam.

The quotes are deluging internet forums and form part of messages posted in texts and emails sent to exhort Muslims to vote for Mr Livingstone.
