Those are the stark findings of a new report published by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) on Wednesday (22 April) based on research carried out in each of the EU's 27 member states last year.

Official racism figures only show the tip of the iceberg," said FRA Director Morten Kjaerum.

In France, 88 per cent of North Africans and 87 per cent of sub-Saharan Africans questioned said they had experienced discrimination.

Did you really need the EU to tell you that?

I thought it fascinating they would admit it. Typically they say it's all just some failure to 'get along'.

Fortunately, there's absolutely no racism in the US (http://s108401541.onlinehome.us/images/kkk_birminghammarch.jpg) or Israel (http://www.imemc.org/attachments/dec2008/mosque_graffiti.jpeg)

Report: Israel warns nationals in Europe of Hezbollah plans
http://jta.org/news/article/2009/04/24/1004625/report-israel-warns-nationals-in-europe-of-hezbollah-plans
April 24, 2009

(JTA) -- Israel warned Israeli businessmen in Europe to return home because of the threat of a terrorist attack by Hezbollah.

Israel's government has general knowledge of plans by the Lebanese terrorist group to avenge the assassination last year of its operations leader, Imad Mughniyeh, Ha'aretz reported. Israel has not acknowledged any role in that killing, which took place in Syria; some outside experts have suggested the Syrian government could have been responsible for the assassination, given frustration in recent years with its inability to control Hezbollah.

Since the Mughniyeh assassination, Israel has helped prevent Hezbollah attacks on Israeli targets in Canada, on an embassy in central Asia and on Israeli businessmen in Africa, according to the Ha'aretz report.

No, but it exists, as well as a growing number of neo-nazi's (http://www.natvanbooks.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=827). (didn't you meet them at the anti-Obama tea parties? was it fun...) I don't have a travel agent. Also, contrary to what you might believe, Jew-burning and gypsy-throwing are not popular pasttimes anymore in Europe...

The only time we have 3 days of car burning riots is when the Detroit Pistons win the NBA championship.

And how many coloured people in the US feel they were discriminated against at least once in their life? I bet its close to 100%.

Oh boy...here comes another round of "what can we do to make up for the discrimination you felt."

Discrimination is such a powerful, yet vague word. I'm not sure what it means any more. Does it only mean someone broke a law in the treatment of another? Does it mean someone was denied a courtesy? Does it mean someone felt picked on? Does it mean someone didn't get a proper hearing? Does it mean someone didn't get what they felt they were entitled to? Or does discrimination have to involve violence or the threat of violence? Is the description of the discrimination objective or does it only matter if a person feels discriminated against?

In the real world, outside of civil rights arena, thoughts of discrimination abound. White men, overweight people, older people, those who don't wear the right clothes, didn't go to the right schools or are undereducated, live in the best neighborhoods, aren't pretty enough, blah blah all have felt discriminated against at one time or another. It doesn't hurt less than the officially recognized discriminations.
