-Jumblatt warns of 'Israeli agression on Lebanon'-

Daily Star staff
Thursday, June 18, 2009

BEIRUT: Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt warned against an Israeli attack on Lebanon in light of Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu's speech which focused on the growing Iranian threat. Netanyahu's speech "could mean an aggression on Lebanon under the slogan of 'thwarting the Iranian threat."

Netanyahu said in his foreign policy speech that Israel currently faces three tremendous challenges: The Iranian threat, the financial crisis, and the promotion of peace.

Jumblatt called on Lebanese to "put aside the drama of the thrill of election victory of the March 14 Forces and gear up to face the challenges ahead of us and the great Israeli threat that was clearly reflected in Netanyahu's speech." - The Daily Star

Jumblatt, is just opening himself to the best now that the big wave is over. Do u get it?

He sells to the highest bidder.

That is it...lebanese politics. Men sell their own mother's souls. Which is why Geagea and others will be hated throughout life. Because they don't.

But, why you worry. He will switch again! Just bait needs to be bigger.

But in all honesty....we Lebanese do not want PALS in our lands. They are your problem. Nytanuuuus speech, is for us to take them in. U need to deal with it. Not us. THey cost us tons of money per year! And if we take them...what do we get?

And, I think....u need to be open more. PPPPPPPL can not live like they are in PAL areas. U are gng to take heat before u stop it. PPl living with keys to their houses in their homes now. They still own lands in israel, that you have a family on. THAT IS REALITY! THEY HAVE THE DEEDS!

While I support ISreal on being open....you also have to be just. I am not anti isreal....but pro, but u have to understand the other side to solve the equation.

luv ya...OB

Pals ur turf, not Lebanese.

The majority of the Palestinians living in Lebanon were born in Lebanon. The other Palestinians who live in Lebanon were either aggressive or fighting Israel and kicked out or fled 62 years ago. They will never live in Israel ever again.

I don't think the answer to the so-called Palestinian "refugees" is in Lebanon, but it's not in Israel either. If you want solutions you can't throw about nonsense slogans and say "they're your turf." You know very well that all Israelis from left to right will never agree to import hostile Palestinians to Israel. And you also know very well that these Palestinians are hostile which is why you guys slaughtered each other in the 70's and 80's and now they are confined to camps in Lebanon.

More than half of the "Palestinian" felahin clans came from Syria to work for the Jews in the early part of the last century. Lebanon BTW was part of Syria (aka "Greater Syria") at the time, so some statistically came from what is today Lebanon. If you don't want them OB, then send them to their Syrian relatives.

How about we swap the rest of them for you and yours OB?

I second what Yala wrote. In most countries, being born there = being a citizen. Not to mention that they are Sunni Arab bretheren who have been kept poor by a political decision to keep them as a political weapon.

Moreover, the "keys" propaganda is just that, propaganda. Most of the 60+ year old deeds are difficult if not impossible to verify, and, even where they do exist, are the properties of hostiles lost in war. And how many of the Pal Arabs in Lebanon were originally in Jordan, but fled with the PLO after the failed Black September revolt?

I understand that no one wants the Pal Arabs in their lands. They, for whatever reason, have tended to be easily prone towards violence (wherever they have been located). That said, while there will likely be some compensation scheme (in addition to the Billions upon Billions they have already received from UNRWA), the reality is that Israel won't take them, the West Bank won't take them, either (simply can't hold them and will find reasons to reject them), and they will stay in the lands where they are.

In addition, the likelihood of a peace deal any time soon is slim. The red-lines of the two parties are still far apart. There is no appetite for a broader Israeli-Arab war to settle this, since that would end either in an Israeli victory or Nuclear war, and would be far messier than the Arab nations starting to integrate their Palestinian populations. It's already happening, slowly, anyways.

He is a worse flip-flopper than Kerry.

Typical middle easterner. It's not a flip flop, it's positioning and leverage. Now that the Syrians are in a position to be reactionary and the Hizzies are possibly on the outs, they make sure that they don't aggravate either. They are still up for destabilizing both though, much more so than Israel. The Druse have never committed any communal aggression against Jews AFAIK (not counting that animal we recently released from prison). That includes the Jumblatt clan. I could be wrong on that account though. Please fact check me.

But more so: One should also have a basic understanding of Druse historical politics. People bandy around taqqiyia this or taqqiyia that regarding Sunni Muslims, but the Druse actually practice it as an art form. They had too or they would all be dead. Not all of the sovereignties where they reside are as nice as the Jews. :) In Syria, in Lebanon, they agree only to internally disagree and then agree again. So long as they walk comfortably on the tight rope they are happy to be unhappy.

Its all baloney, I've always been convinced that most of these educated old secular elitists like Jumblatt would really wish that there was peace with Israel and I'm sure Jumblatt prefers Israel to Iran or Syria. Jumblatt has been put in the invidious position of having to suck Nasrullahs political microphone atmo to keep the dog from biting so I would not take too seriously the sort of routine political comments amy leader has to make in the region to keep the neanderthals happy.

Jumblatt is a known anti-Semite in Lebanon.

As for the anti-Israel remarks as of late, he is trying to get close to Hezballah. He doesn't want a repeat of the Druze-Shia scuffle that took place last year. Some of his private remarks to Druze elders were leaked to Lebanese media, video and all, and he said as much. He also badmouthed Christians and Hariri. He said Hariri imported Sunni Jihadists to Lebanon to fight Hezballah.
