Hamas sliding, poll shows
From The Jewish Chronicle
June 29, 2009

Support for Hamas has dropped by almost ten per cent, an opinion poll has shown.

The survey of 1,199 people, by the Jerusalem Media and Communications Centre (JMCC), put public support for Hamas in the West Bank and Gaza Strip at 18.8 per cent, compared with 27.7 per cent in its previous poll in January.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah faction is now more popular than Hamas with a 34.9 per cent rating, up from 26 percent in January, indicating the group could take the next election in Gaza.

Khader Khader, head of the media unit at the East Jerusalem-based JMCC, said he believed Hamas' popularity was affectly by rising discontent in Gaza over a lack of movement in Egyptian-sponsored unity talks with Fatah and in reopening the territory's borders.

According to the poll, 26.5 per cent blamed Israel for the deadlock between Fatah and Hamas, while 23.5 per cent blamed Hamas and 15.5 percent said Fatah was responsible.

"It's a sort of protest by the people because there is no progress on these two major issues," Khader said.

The poll also found that most Palestinians have low expectations of Barack Obama, and believe his presidency will have no effect on the Israeli and Palestinian peace process.

More than 49 per cent of the respondents said that Obama's policies would not impact the peace process, compared with 35.4 per cent who believe that Obama's policies will improve the chances for peace.

So at least Israelis and Palestinians have something in common!

According to my watch the stew has barely started cooking, so ten percent is a good start. Of course they could release Gilad Shalit and then things might impriove for them.

Now, it appears the terrorists in Gaza are dividing among themselves and killing each other there:

Members of a militant Islamic group Jund Ansar Allah, surround their leader Abdel-Latif Moussa, second right, as he speaks during Friday prayers in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip Friday, Aug. 14, 2009. Islamic radicals from an al-Qaida-inspired group are staging a shootout with Hamas security in the Gaza Strip that has killed five. The leader of Jund Ansar Allah, or the Soldiers of the Companions of God, defied Gaza's Hamas rulers by declaring the territory an "Islamic emirate" at Friday prayers. Shortly after, a gunbattle broke out between the militants in the mosque and Hamas forces.

Reciprocal Blame is Tossed Back and Forth
After the relatively high number of killings in blood wars between Hamas and Al-Queda loyalists in the Gaza Strip, each side lays blame on the other for the unrest.

Shmuel Barzel 16/08/2009 12:47
In the speech that Hamas govt.head Ismaiel Haniyeh gave yesterday he said: In Gaza there are no soldiers other than the ones in this army. In his speech Haniyeh blamed the Imam, Abdel-Latif Moussa for incitement against the Hamas government and disapproved of his control.

YNet reported, on the other hand, that Al-Queda loyalists in the Strip aren't won't rest, and that already two days ago announced that the spilled blood wasn't for naught, and that the fighting on Shabbat was just the beginning of the war. They claim that they have plenty groups of soldiers to avenge the deaths, and are requesting from civilians to keep away from Hamas buildings.

The Palestinian agency announced two days ago in an official notice that the PLO has condemned the organization sharply in the killings and destruction in Rafieh. The PLO places full responsibility on Hamas for turning mosques into partisan centers and for turning Gaza into the new Somalia and Afganistan- says the proclamation. In continuance, the PLO called on all citizens of Gaza to do their all in order to put an end to Hamas rule and leadership in Gaza.

I don't know why, but hearing about those terrorists killing each other gives me a certain sense of joy and satisfaction. Better them killing each other than the Israelis or people at large.

Since when do dictators worry about being popular?

Since when do dictators worry about being popular?
Just before they become dictators, to demagogue the public into believing in them.

In the meantime Hamas cooked up this 'civil war' with some rag tag bunch of extremist losers. 30 killed in fighting and suicide attacks. Awesome. Let's send them all hammers and machetes.

I just came across the following, heavily propagandized by antisemites to discredit Israel. I am not quite familiar with all the names, and would like some input from those who know more. Thanks

Gideon Levy who wrote the article is a left wing journalist who writes for Haaretz newspaper. Like Amira Hass, who also works for Haaretz, he always takes the Palestinian's side.

Thanks. I guess beauty is always in the eye of the beholder, and nothing on the left is ever beautiful.
