The Rafah crossing will be permanently opened in 7-10 days Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Elarby told Al Jazeera on Thursday. The move comes as relations between post-Mubarak Egypt and Israel appear to be taking a dangerous turn.

Now is the time to reoccupy Gaza and shut down the border and the smuggling tunnels.

I think just the reverse. The political capital from there no longer being even the pretense of a 'blockade' are enormous. Hamas will net exit Gaza and attempt to attack Israel from the Sinai. Which the last time I checked is Egypt not Gaza. So then Israel gets to respond to a real nation that ostensibly plays by something like rules in the world. Also they would pull the Egyptian army out of the urban centers in Egypt leaving the Egyptian political internalities quite fragile.

We should use the opportunity to point out the Palistinian and the Egyptian alignment with Iran to rile the Arabs elsewhere. That is a solid gameplan. Most gulf Arabs already hate the Palestinians, here is a perfect opportunity to throw some petrol on the fire. The Syrian Sunnis are being murdered by the Hezzies and Iranian revolutionary guards, who knows maybe Palies as well. The Palestinians are traitors to the cause, and Egyptians are now betting on the wrong horse.

IIRC, the EU is tasked with monitoring-who and inspecting-what passes through the Rafah terminal.

If Egypt is reneging on this agreement, then I would hold Egypt accountable for any weaponry used against Israel that transits the Rafah Crossing.

Look at this logically. When Israel controlled the Philidelphi corridor, were there tunnels? Was Egypts control of this border successfull in stopping the flow of arms into Gaza? Was Egypt commited to keeping peace between Philistinians and Israel?
The tunnel smuggling barrons are going to be well anoyed as their revenue has been sabotaged. The guards who made dash by turning a blind eye will be strapped if they took out loans for a new car. Hah! there is going to be some infighting so pull up a chair and enjoy. Better than WWE westling.
All this means now is that the arms shipments travel over land rather than through tunnels which will make them easier to destroy by the IAF.
Bring it on.
