View Full Version : The Barak Solution

Although a lot of this was pretty much offered to the Palestinians already by the Barak government, the former PM, in an interview today, laid out his vision for a Palestinian state:

From AFP on The Age (http://www.theage.com.au/breaking/2002/02/02/FFXUQ500SWC.html):

Former Israeli premier Ehud Barak called for a reorganisation of Jewish settlements in the Palestinian territories, with some being handed back to the Palestinians.

"What I am proposing is a kind of four-year plan. In the first stage we should separate ourselves totally from the Palestinians. There should be two states, for two people," he said in an interview to appear in the Saturday edition of the newspaper Die Welt.

"We have to put an end to the domination of the Palestinians."

He said that seven settlement zones should be set up covering 12-13 per cent of the territories where 80 per cent of the settlers live.

He said that settlements in Israeli territories along the Jordan Valley and mountain areas should be surrounded by bolstered security zones with enhanced barriers to prevent suicide bombers entering Israeli territory.

"We should hand the rest back to the Palestinians," he said.

The settlements should not be annexed in law, so as not to prejudice the restart of peace talks, he added.

"At the same time we should state clearly that we are leaving the settlements outside these zones, to transfer them to newly-created settlements or in the state of Israel," he said.

Two states sounds good to me. As soon as the ink is dry you’ll have Palestinians claiming refugee status in Israel claiming persecution from their government. There’s already Arabs claiming refugee status in Israel right now.

How about paying them to relocate the calculations would be +/- 1,500,000 Palestinians x $100,000=$150,000,000,000. They would give up all right to the occupied territories. It could then be sold to raise that much money and more. Any excess would be given to them.

Why bother to pay them at all?

I have every confidence that a ton of European money will stream into Palestine II and that their Muslim brothers who spent decades championing the cause of the Palestinians will provide for their dear brothers.

If I was to be completely truthful it is my feelings that they should be deported because most of them just magically became supposed Palestinians.

Deportation however would not wash in the rest of the world. The position taken by the EU and the US calls for creating two states. It would be easy for me to say give your house away to a street person since it wouldn?t cost me anything, in other words its easy to be generous with someone else?s money. This coupled with the fact that the EU and US don?t have to live with the consequences of having Arab neighbors shelling them and sending suicide bombers into their countries.

What I?m saying is that it?s my feeling that two states will not work and in any case unless I?m completely disoriented it would have to be a minimum of three states unless someone builds a tunnel between the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Alaska and Virgin Island were bought by the US so land can be bought. If they (Palestinians) were given an offer ?Without Prejudice? and they were to take it then the area would then come under total Israel ownership and control.

At that point it would become a civil war if terror organizations committed acts of terror within the sovereign borders of Israel. EU and the US would have to totally butt out of the matter.

As I?m sitting here writing I just realize that when you plug one hole another pops up.

To say the least a difficult situation.

there can be 2 states maybe but deportation was used by kuwait after the gulf war to clean out the country of a quarter million palestinian residents who were cheering for saddam hussein. same as in israel. the slimy eu said nothing and the us kept its mouth shut as well.

There's always been a different set of rules for Israel.

btw - Looks like Barak is starting his own new political party and will run for reelection by the end of the year.

If i understand most of you correctly, you have no faith in whatever solution as long as there as Palestinians in this world.

Israel seems to have a nuclear weapon.
Maybe that is the solution you are seeking?

it would be very convenient for you to paint this false picture, as if anyone who opposes Arab terrorism is somehow advocating the killing of all Arabs. This is simply not true.

It makes good sense that people who see Arab mass murder of innocent Jews and a complete lack of willingness of the Arabs to stop their terrorism, can aspire to have the Palestinians leave Israel and go to live in their own second Palestinain state, with an international border between those countries.

I have never seen anyone wish for the things that you claim. You are simply mistaken. Sadly mistaken, actually.
