"Ma'ariv": Israel is offering $100,000 compensation per family, provided that Turkey rescinds its demand for an apology.
11 August 11 10:17, Globes' correspondent
Hebrew daily "Ma'ariv" reports that, in a new effort to repair relations with Turkey, Israel is offering $100,000 to the families each of the nine dead on the Mavi Marmara during the Gaza flotilla incident in May 2010. In exchange, Turkey will rescind its demand for an apology by Israel over the incident, and accept a statement that Israel deeply regrets the deaths. The offer was made informally. Turkey has not yet responded to the offer. The new offer is double Israel's original offer of $50,000 to the families of each of the dead.

I hope this report is baseless because if not, the people who believe that money can and will buy 'good will', live in lah lah land.
In any case, I hope that common sense will prevail and they won't proceed with such counterproductive stupidity!

In any case, I hope that common sense will prevail and they won't proceed with such counterproductive stupidity!First, it's not about "good will", it's the hush money and hush money principle works. And second, as they are haggling now, apparently, this proves that no moral issue is at stake with the Turkish position. Buying Turkish "neutrality" for less than a $1 mil should be a good deal. Yeah, it's not for long, but nevertheless it's cheaper than increase in military spending to compensate for the newfound Turkey's hostility.

I hate to disagree with you. I normally don't but on this one we disagree.
Call it what you like. Hush money or protection money ... Whatever. It just doesn't work. This Turkish government has set out to be our enemy, that's the way it is. They would gleefully take the money, pocket it and crow about it. Then they will just proceed to vilify Israel as if nothing happened. That's the way these things work ...

Hang on, is this the money for the Turkish government? There are ways to make sure that the money goes right to the families involved and they make public statements or sign a paper or whatever. No pontificating, strictly business of STFU.
Now the "apology" is all different game and by the way, how would this apply to Turkey? Was the flotilla organized by the Turk government?
My point is, if for $1m we can stop Tirkey slide towards the enemies' pit (albeit temporarily) - let's do it. It's cheap.

If I thought that we could stop Turkey from siding with our enemies, I would agree with you. I am pragmatic enough to go along with such initiatives because as you say, it would be worth it. The point is that I don't think that we can. I REALLY don't think we can and I don't think that we should dabble in the possibility. Let's not hide our head in the sand. Let's accept reality just for once. Even if it's not the reality that we would like to have.
Let's leave the habit of hiding our head in the sand to our extreme leftists. They are doing a good enough job of it. The rest of us don't need to emulate them.

I have been telling this few times but apologizing to islamist akp would also weaken the secular folk in Turkey. I recommend Israel to keep kaput relation with akp and support seculars indirectly. Paying a stfu money is a temporary solution. I know how to beat the islamists and normalize the relations if the top Israeli officials and strategy planners are willing to listen what I say. Tayyip Erdogan is playing the strong man card for attracting foreign investors and gaining more islamist support we all know that. I seriously know a way to make Tayyip puppet of Israel.
