I was posed today with a response that Israel should assume a passive stance against agrression as Israel had done in the past... That harsh retaliation would only enrage the world community against Israel, and Israel should soften it's approach towards terrorism. Being passive killed millions throughout history as seen not only by hitler's regime but in many countries throughout history during the expulsions from the homeland and of course to those who remained in the homeland of Israel when the label "palestine" was temporarily affixed by the Romans.

Even other countries know that passivity can be viewed as weakness when in reality peace is sought, especially when those with terrorist mindsets look upon their prey.

Israel in reality has been soft on these people but if those criticizing aren't in the middle of the action but viewing from afar images can appear distorted. Only if aided with accurate historical data can one view the reality of the atrocities committed against Israel. Past actions can offer a better perspective of the distrust Israel has against these people.

I'm not sure Israel was passive in the past.

But it's clear to me that not taking action against the Arab mass murderers would be a very bad decision.

It's like deciding that society should not take action against organized crime, or to let murderers and rapists go unpunished.

Why would anyone suggest such a strange thing?

If you stand in the middle of a forest, you can see every individual leave and branche. This is OK.
But it is also easy to get lost in the woods.

From a distance you don't get confused by the individual branches.
You might miss on a lot of details.
But you certainly get a better picture of the forest as a whole.
