Hundreds of Israeli travelers have changed their travel plans to avoid flying to or stopping in Turkey during the upcoming Jewish holidays, a leading Israeli travel agency said on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in Turkey, Jewish residents have begun feeling the effects of the increased tensions between Jerusalem and Ankara. Istanbul resident Izzet, 40, said the current worrisome atmosphere reminded him of “dark times.” He said other Jews had “already taken all their money out of the Turkish banks.” But another Istanbul resident, Murat, 28, felt differently, insisting that the conflict was restricted to government officials. “There are no problems between Jewish and Muslim citizens,” he said. Moshe Levy, who moved to Israel from Turkey but still has family living in Turkey, said his relatives there were very concerned. “Many are scared, but the majority are waiting for the tension to blow over,” Levy said.
