Edward Said is often seen as an "expert" in Middle Eastern affairs, and American networks, particularly PBS, often tap him to speak on their programs.

Remarkably, he echoes Arafat's deception in claiming to be born in Jerusalem when he was actually born in Cairo.
Lately, he has been occupied in such efforts as throwing rocks at Israeli soldiers.

Said's credentials to speak for "Palestinians" remain somewhat in doubt, given his status as a non-Muslim. Nevertheless, he is frequently interviewed in this capacity.
A reasonable response would be for Columbia University to revoke his tenure, but that seems unlikely to happen.
