(2nd story down)

Qatar revealed for the first time Wednesday[26 Oct.] that hundreds of its soldiers had joined Libyan rebel forces on the ground as they battled troops of veteran leader Muammar Gaddafi. “We were among them and the numbers of Qataris on the ground were hundreds in every region,” said Qatari chief of staff Major General Hamad Bin Ali Al-Atiya. The announcement marks the first time that Qatar has acknowledged it had military boots on the ground in Libya.

Previously Qatar said it had only lent the support of its air force to NATO-led operations to protect civilians during the eight-month uprising, which ended when Gaddafi was captured and killed last week.

Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting in Doha of military allies of Libya’s National Transitional Council (NTC), Atiya said the Qataris had been “running the training and communication operations.”

“Qatar had supervised the rebels’ plans because they are civilians and did not have enough military experience. We acted as the link between the rebels and NATO forces,” he said. Libya’s interim leader Mustafa Abdel Jalil told the meeting that Qatar had been “a major partner in all the battles we fought.”

He added that the Qataris had “planned” the battles which paved the way for NTC fighters to gradually take over Gaddafi-held towns and cities. Atiya also said that after the departure of NATO troops, a new international coalition led by Qatar would oversee “military training, collecting weapons, and integrating the rebels in newly established military institutions.”

After the event and the way that Gadaffi met his end, I get a feeling that the west raided a zoo, helped kill the keepers and opened all the enclosures.
I have the same feeling about this whole arab spring thing too.

I couldn't agree more, farmboy... the so called Arab Spring will release many more of the lunatic fringe from other zoo enclosures.

Good. Let it implode and die screaming.

Sounds good to me... I look forward to the day; moreover, watching the drum-beating media and gullible, western leadership utter, 'We didn't see this one coming.' They were in denial several decades ago; therefore this would be no surprise. I often question how the west has survived into the 21st century, when more often than not, their answer to the volatile events Middle-East and other Geo-political hot spots is , golly-gee, let's find a sand-trap and stick our heads into it. Some would choose a warmer orifice... but it would not be judged as proper etiquette.

If it concerns Israel, needless to say; then they suddenly have no problem censuring Israel for defending its sovereignty and citizens. Murder and mayhem does not count when it comes to Jews, Israeli or otherwise... it reads like a page torn from a history book regarding decades past. Nothing has changed in the minds of western governments'; Jews/Israel are/is the problem. The Arab-Spring, on the other hand, is the big hope for world peace... time for an antacid.

Odds are they feast on the corpses of their own children. Syrians massacre thousands, no one cares. Libyans kill 15,000 in civil war, CNN is there to interview shopkeepers. 200,000 made refugees, thousands killed in Yemen. Great Big Yawn. Etcetera Etcetera Etcetera. Best case scenario they all descend all the way into the dark ages where literacy is outlawed, everything is a capital crime and every good Muslim woman has 9 babies. I for one would happily welcome the famines and biblical diseases which result.

I have to say, this is one fine solution - I can only imagine the horror stricken faces on the talking-heads of the media and the lame-duck leadership of the west.
