hey guys,
i dunno if this is on topic so much, but
when the jewish state of israel was first created in 1948 (i think), they were just coming out of the ruins of europe, and from other places... how were they so quickly able to develop such a strong country? my mom went there in the 1960's, she said it was already very modern and americanized, and they could already give the the combined arab countries more than it could handle in war and what not...

when i look at israel, i don't understand how there can be third world countries in the world...
if the tiny country of israel can develop so fast and become so strong in their somewhat barren land, surrounded by vast countries and people's who wanna destroy them...
why would there still be countries which are so poor? what's stopping them from having nothing to becoming strong themselves?
heh, the only country which i could see that has problems at somewhat the same level is japan; they gotta lot of stuff they hafta to deal with too... but they've been around for a while.

heh.

anyway, for those who've never been on a tour of israel like i have, there is a tremondous attitude for peace there; there are peace museums, there are programs where the left wingers debate the right wingers on the issues (at the golan height)... i do think that most israelis are as reasonable (if not more so) then people in canada or the states, (now people there listen to the news!) or any democratic country with a good education system...
i think people who say israel doesnt want peace are unfamiliar with how much the demads of the palestinians and arab countries will impact on the jewish state of israel's ability to survive. they need:
-water
-land which is strategicly important for defending itself (you know, not the type of land they would wanna give to their mortal enemies who wanna kill them)
-mostly jewish
-land space enough so things can develop
-perhaps lastly, jerusalem... this is the heart and soul of the jewish people...

even most of the right wingers are very reasonable, you just gotta talk to them. a lot of them feel that giving into the left wing demands will lead to the end of the jewish state as they know it. perhaps im wrong; but from what i know, i dont think most palestinians are as reasonable... i think too much of their education is focased on unbridled hatred; though i could be wrong.

oh well, that being said, im proud of my tiny country of israel, the jewish people... and hopefully soon, there will be peace.

Rather than start another thread, I will post this URL here in the interests of diversity and multiple viewpoints:

What I get from the story is how Arabs have and will benefit greatly from a healthy, wealthy Israel. Arab terrorist actions make it very difficult for the Arab population to benefit.

All 100% true, victot.

You make some excellent points.

Both Right-wing Israelis and Leftists want a peace. They just differ on the methods of getting there.

On the other hand, there is no peace movement in Arab society, only Jihad and terrorism movements, which really says to me that the right-wing Israelis are much more on target than the Lesftists.

This is not to say that there are no Arabs who want peace, just that they afraid for their lives to demonstrate in favor of peace publicly because the majority of Jihad extremists in their countries would slaughter the peaceful ones faster than you can say "Allahu Achbar."

Again, all this goes to show that the Leftist Israelis are living in fantasy land thinking that the Arabs are ready for peace.
