A POLEMIC
Germany's leading role in arming Iraq
By Marc Erikson

Expurgated portions of Iraq's December 7 report to the UN Security Council show that German firms made up the bulk of suppliers for Iraq's weapons of mass destruction programs. What's galling is that German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and his minions have long known the facts, German intelligence services know them and have loads of information on what Saddam Hussein is hiding, and Schroeder nonetheless plays holier than thou to an easily manipulated, pacifist-inclined domestic audience.

If it's not the height of hypocrisy and opportunism, Schroeder's preemptive "no war. period" stance on Iraq and insistence on a "German Way" (Deutscher Weg) certainly come close. . . .

As posted previously (http://www.israelforum.com/board/showthread.php3?postid=43162#post43162), Germany's foreign minister was formerly involved in terrorism personally.

It would appear that everyone in the German government is aware of what weapons Iraq has, and Germany's role in it. The opposition leader is disallowed by oath from revealing what he knows, but has challenged Schroeder to tell. Reading the unclassified information in the article, it's hard to give any credibility to the idea that Iraq is not dangerously armed with WMD.

Both Germany and France leading anti-war movement out of humanitarian reasons don't make a lot of sense. Out of being afraid their dirty business with Saddam will be uncovered - now that make a lot of sense.

That is exactly what Rush Limbaugh said the other day.

This article (in German - use Babelfish at http://babelfish.altavista.com for a very rough translation)

indicates that the Red-Green coalition in Germany knew about Iraq being a smallpox threat.

In fact, Germany has ordered 30 million smallpox vaccine doses. I'm sure this was not done with no reason whatsoever.

Germany sold eight mobile laboratories to Iraq in the 1980s, reports the German-language New Zurich Newspaper.

According to a story in the Swiss paper yesterday, Iraq received the facilities for the purpose of producing biological and chemical weapons. Development expert Hans Branscheidt claims he personally saw the vehicles in action on several occasions in 1988, reports the paper. ...

I remember seeing something on the news about a German scientist helping Iraq develop nuclear weapons in the mid-90s.
