One day the entire world will be liberated.

Let's hope they appreciate it more than our "friends" in Western Europe.

Are you sure you didn't mean subjugated?

I have a feeling Bush may already be finished. He will NOT get his UN vote. But he will sit and wait for it. Meanwhile, the desert is heating up, sandstorms are developing, his army is sitting out in the desert day after day after day.

What are his options? If he immediately attacks, wiht no UN support, he will for sure bring down the wrath of 80% of the world's population. If he waits for a unanimous UN Security Council Resolution, forget it, that will NOT happen. What he is currently hoping for is at least a majority on the Security Council to support him. Which is doubtful.

However if he does get his majority, and goes to war on that basis, then Israel is probably finished -- because the US security council veto will no longer have any meaning.

Even then, however, it may be too late. The entire US force in the Middle East could be effectively disabled by one protracted sandstorm.

An attack by Iraqi artillery armed simply with some sugar or flour could result in many thousands of US soldiers forced into protective suits that in themselves could prove fatal in the intense heat of the desert. In fact, once things really heat up in that desert, all bets are off. Iraq could fall, for sure, but the American and British forces would be subject to extremely difficult and possibly disastrous weather conditions.

And if Bush actually gains some wisdom in the next few days and decides to put off his war (highly unlikely but possible), then he will lose face with the entire world and probably be forced to resign.

Looks to me like Bush could be finished. (But I COULD be wrong. :-)

Sand storms you say? At least our side has goggles. Sure the weather is getting hotter but I don’t think Bush will wait more than another week or so even for the British. It is not Bush that is finished. It is Saddam and his cronies who are finished. Many of them are just dead men walking.

You may be right. But I don't think Bush has any good options left at this point. If he really wanted to go to war, he should have been more decisive and done it already. By now it may be too late. He is caught between his conviction that Saddam must be replaced and the awareness on the part of just about everyone in the world except him that a blitzkrieg style war against Iraq, complete with Dresden style bombing of Baghdad would turn most of the world against the US. We would become a pariah state, fair game not only for Moslem terrorists but all sorts of new terrorists coming out of the woodwork from everywhere. On the other hand if we opt for anything less than blitzkrieg, we'll be stuck in a protracted war with our troops dangerously bogged down in the heat of the desert -- with protective suits that would be unendurable in that heat. And finally, when we DO win sooner or later, we wouldn't have any more access to those weapons of mass destruction then we have now. (Isn't it usually easier to get information from living scientists than dead ones?)

I see no good options for Bush. If he goes ahead with this war, he loses -- because it's already too late to wage it effectively. And if he puts it off and brings the troops home, he loses -- because he will look like a fool.

I almost agree with Bertyb.

Let's look at one side. Say, our military was not to be ready until March 15. Say that was the original date. The major screwup has been with the Turks. The UN was just noise. So, we go in on March 17 regardless of the vote. The only one that suffers is Blair.
We still have time before the heat starts up.

On the other hand. If we were ready at Xmas and we have been holding off to give Blair cover then I think we really screwed up.

I hope things work out and that Bush has a few aces up his sleeve. He has done it before.

Once thing for sure:

Powell and the UN had their one shot. No more will they hold us back from the Axis of Evil.

The American public is sick of the UN, and sick of France. A little less toward the Germans and Russians.

Having said all that. We need to attack in the next 5 days regardless of whether the Brits come along.

Margie Thatcher once called Bush 41 and told him not to "go wobbley" on her. Looks like Blair may be going wobbley on America.

Berty,
Why so glum? Have you no faith in Tommy Franks and the boys? Believe me, the soldiers are ready to go.

You are worried about 80% of the world disapproving. Most of the world could give a rip about what's going on in Iraq. They are wondering if the world around them is ever going to let the sun in. Only the semi-civilized even know about the coming war, and most of them are going to react as they are told to react by the press. Don't let yourself fall into that group. Chin up! Soon you will see the results of what we do not know come to light. I expect the President will not only be vindicated, but fully exhonetrated by the same press that denegrates him today.
