The British troops were unprepared for this: among all the scenarios they prepared and practiced, not one dealt with he possibility of Iraqi surrender before the start of invasion.

One unit of British paratroopers, stationed on the Kuwait-Iraq border was conducting firing drills. The troops tested their weapons by firing rounds to the air. All of the sudden, appeared before the British troops a group of frightened Iraqi soldiers raising their hands, waiving white flags, and calling “we surrender”.

A British officer told the Sunday Mirror reporter, that the surprised British paratroopers had to explain to the Iraqi soldiers that the war didn’t actually start yet. “Despite their poor condition and low moral, there was nothing we could do except send them back to Iraq” says the officer, “we were unprepared to take prisoners.”

British newspapers reported that the British forces in Kuwait started preparing for the land invasion. The forces breached the fence separating Kuwait and Iraq in 35 places, creating entrances for the invading forces. Sunday Times reported that a private contractor is working in cooperation with the army to create the entrances in the fence. Each such entrance will be big enough for a tank to pass through.

The Sunday Telegraph reveals that the first target of the British forces is Iraq international airport in Baghdad. After securing the airport, it will become the front supply station of the invading forces.
