Around ten thousand Russian citizens have applied for entry visas into Iraq to defend this country against the planned aggression by the warmongering USA and UK, according to the Iraqi Embassy in Moscow.

Iraqi Ambassador to Moscow, Abbas Khalaf, declared last week that the Embassy had received around 3,500 requests, a number which has multiplied in the last few days, according to sources in the same Embassy.

The requests come from young males, some with combat experience, who describe themselves as “volunteers” who are willing to defend Iraq against the illegal armed aggression of the USA and the United Kingdom, two countries which continue to follow a belligerent stance on crisis management, wholly outside the generally accepted concepts of a New World Order based upon multilateralist approaches to problem solving, based upon the United Nations Organisation, a position championed by president Putin’s Russian Federation.

For those who present an adequate reason for travelling to Iraq, the Embassy provides a visa and transportation, free of charge.
The plot thickens. With the possible introduction of Russian "volunteers," how do you think such developments will affect the current situation in Iraq?

Now there's an idea, a kind of Marielito Boatlift to Iraq! Empty all the prisons and send them to Iraq to "volunteer" and defend the country!!!!

I love it.

(for those of you too young to remember this - in 1980 Castro emptied his prisons and put them all on boats to America.)

I sincerely hope these "volunteers" are just peacenik. During the korean war, the PRC said it is a "volunteer" poor peasant army. It turns out to be a special unit. In this case, the russian expertise will have the " know how" to attack 300,000 backup reserve forces. Then, we will have WWIII.

The American makes a big assumption that foreign troops won't join the Iraqi forces, to counter american offensive. If a country counter american troops, it will make an enemy of the US. Thus, investment would be withdrawl from Russia. A lots of interest would be a stake as well.

However, Germany and France are in a Franco-German pact. They are prepared to split away the US hegomony anyway. Just as Bush prepare to split with german-franco alliance. Any containment or sanction wouldn't be effective on Russia.

War is always an element of surprise........

Then again, I hope some optimistic person like elke or mediocrates would tell me that I am very wrong. That I am a peacenik.

You are a peacenik ;)

I sincerely doubt that any nation will officially field troops on Hussein's side in this conflict, although the possibility cannot be discounted completely.

The main reason is that he really has no friends: Russia, France, China, - all realize that everyone will be better off without him, oil contracts and other such considerations notwithstanding. In any case, "blood for oil" makes a good slogan; but it really isn't a policy that would be acceptable to anyone.

Second of all, they are not particularly keen on fighting the combined forces of US and British militaries, with a sprinkling of others as well.

And finally, simply because notwithstanding the rhetoric, these countries - and most others as well, - do not wish to antagonize US to the point of no return; and make no mistake: this would drive a wedge into the relationship that would remain for possibly, hundreds of years. It would also destroy the European Union as well, since many countries from it are on the side of the US.

The more likely scenario is some unofficial "help" with official sanction, although it is doubtful that Russia will field this - Putin, whatever his faults, does not strike me as stupid; while that would indeed be a stupid move. I'd be more inclined to look at Iran in that light...

.... about as much as dipping a bucket in a lake, trying to make a hole.

Looks like they've been watching too many American movies and want to come play "cowboys and indians" with us. Sadly, they've chosen the wrong side......

In the words of the Prophet Jeremiah, which seem so appopriate here:
“The calamity of MOAB is near at hand, and his affliction comes quickly.

Man oh man! My mother lives very close to "the reservation" (on Eglin AFB) where my former military branch (USAF) tested the MOAB. I'm telling you, guys.... there are some poor slobs in a certain desert that are in for a real treat...

We're bringing a new "party favor" :D to the Mother Of All Battles....
