Today, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer told reporters the following:

"The most concrete thing the president is looking for is 100 per cent effort to stop the violence. Chairman Arafat has tremendous security resources under his control and at his disposal - tens of thousands of people in the security field - who can do more to stop the violence."

This puts the blame squarely on arch-terrorist Arafat and puts to rest all the feeble excuses we've heard lately how poor Arafat just can't stop the violence, because he doesn't have the power to do so.

Are you claiming that if the PA exerted all its forces, there would be no incidents of Palestinan violence whatsoever?

What was required of the Palestinians by the US, the EU and by Israel was to exert a 100% effort to eradicate the terrorist infrastructure.

That means using their troops to do exactly what Israel is doing at this moment in the Balata and Jenin terrorist breeding grounds, where mass murders are trained, armed and where there are missile factories operating around the clock.

House-to-house sweeps, confiscation of weapons, imprisonment of terrorists, intelligence operations, and deportations of foreign Iranian and al Qaeda troops.

Also, an immeidate end to incitement both from the PA and in the mosques, and much more a long these lines.

Eventually, yes, there would be an end to terrorism and a return to peace negotiations that would result in a second Palestinian state.

But so far, the Palestinians have done none of the above.
