On 3/11, after a bloodbath of Israeli victims, Israel's centrists and right-wing citizens gathered in what is considered to be one of the largest demonstrations in the history of the nation. Estimates of the crowd range from 80,000 to 110,000 attendees.

The gathering took place in Rabin Square, which is a statement in and of itself, because many now consider Rabin's liberal policies which provided the Palestinians with territory and weapons in exchange for an unenforceable peace. Many of thise weapons have been used to mass murder Jewish citizens in the past year.

The theme of the gathering was " A strong nation will beat terrorism" and was intended to be non-political. To that end, no politicians were allowed to speak to the audience.

The crowd held signs showing Arafat's picture and the word "Murderer" written in Hebrew, as well as "Only a transfer will bring peace" (referring to the transfer of Palestinians to Palestinian-controlled segregated territories) , "Eliminate the PA" and "This is your fault, friend" (referring to Rabin).

A 9-year-old Israeli girl who was wounded in a terrorist attack on a school bus in Kfar Darom a year ago, spoke to the audience saying, "I think that we don't need to be swayed by what the nations of the world think. If the Americans have pity on the Palestinian terrorists, then they should not tell us to give the terrorists more Israeli land. They should take those terrorists to America instead."

In respect to the "friend" quote, my understanding is that President Clinton made a speech at Rabin's memorial service in which he said "Goodbye friend." This phrase then became a popular Israeli bumper sticker for a time at least. I assume this is an indirect reference.
