IDF Spokesperson 2 July 2003
On June 27, 2003, a Palestinian ambulance arrived at a check-point in the Kalkilya area. The check-point was manned by IDF soldiers, including Lieutenant (Reserve) Vadim, a medical officer.
As the ambulance drew to a stop, the paramedics opened the doors, and asked the IDF soldiers to assist them in delivering a baby.
According to Lieut. (Reserve) Vadim, "The head of the baby had emerged when I arrived on the scene. A short while later, the baby was successfully delivered."
Lieut. (Reserve) Vadim cut the baby's umbilical cord, and administered an intravenous infusion to the mother.
The mother and child were then transported by the Palestinian ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Hope she didn't forget to cover her face, otherwise she's in big trouble for showing it to a stranger. I am curious: _if_ the Pales get their state, will they still want to give birth in Israel?

It is clear that the population of the West Bank would be better off living in the first world then in the third. But hey, it is their decision. Then, let us wait till they ask Israel to take them back...
Why be so cynical about it? This is a great story!

May-bee. Who knows? Maybe if the UN built local medical facilities and put people on the ground who can develop community medical programs instead of shahid schools and white papers and antisemitic conferences who knows what could be accomplished.
But that isn't in anyone's interest is it? Pulling bodies out of the shredder doesn't rank high on the to-do list does it? No, of course not because Palestinian suffering is a proxy in a dispute between the US and the rest of the west and between the Arab world and the rest of the world.

Do Arab babies get citizenship for being born in Israel, like Mexicans get citizenship for being born here (not that not everyone else doesn't, but many Mexicans run across the border and give birth so they're child get to be a citizen and then they do by default pretty much).

In Israel, only babies of Israeli citizens (whether Jewish or Arab) get Israeli citizenship. If a pregnant French tourist gives birth - her baby is not Israeli.

I'm not sure you are right about this. I've heard of cases of palestinian women giving birth in Israel and getting citizenship afterwards.

I didn't hear of any such case. there might be some extreme humanitarian cases (like children of Palestinian collaborators) but these cases are dealt by ministerial order, not by the law book.
In any case, I know for a fact that newborns of foreign works DO NOT get Israeli citizenship. Current minister of interior affairs, Avraham Poraz (of Sinui) started a "quiet" revolution by giving citizenship to children of foreign works who lived in Israeli for more than 10 years. PM Sharon, under pressure from religious paties, ordered Poraz to stop the process.

I did heard stories about that!
Arab women are photographed with the veil, with the head scarf on, in a way that shows only their eyes.
Once a single Arab woman gets Israeli citizenship, she either loans or sell her ID papers to any other NON israeli Arab women, who wears identical scarf as well. Her child is registered as an Israeli citizen...
It a extremly wide spread phenomena. As far as anybody knows, half of Bagdhad is living from Israeli social security. Since the phenomena is that wide, everybody here, is doing their best to hide and keep the lid ontop of this amazing blunder. Also, mass reviosions, enforcement and hunt of such a wide spread social security frauds, may produce further escalation and more riots, this time of "Israeli" Arabs as well.
The govement is turning a blind eye over Arab polygamay, social security frauds, fictive marrige and trade in ID papers for decades, out of fear of riots.
ASAIK, similar problems evolve in Europe as well.
