A Palestinian car thief from Hebron aided an Israeli woman with her car’s flat tire, calming her with the words: “Don’t worry, madam, its Hudnah time, I will do you no harm.”

Gishra Schwartz will probably never forget her encounter with the courteous car thief. Yesterday, Tuesday, at 1 AM, Schwartz received a call from the alarm system at the cosmetics factory she owns in Shomaa settlement in south Hebrom mountain. She got into her car and headed towards the factory. For Schwartz, this is a routine drive, even at night time.

However, during the drive, while still in Israeli territory, her car had a flat tire. Schwartz found herself helpless, alone in the dark.

“Suddenly a private car stopped beside mine. A birded man with an Arab appearance got out ” recalls Schwartz. “The thoughts of being kidnapped already swept my mind. Then the man said to me ‘Don’t worry, madam. I am here to help you. This is Hudnah time now, I mean you no harm.’ And he sat down and started taking the flat tire off. I was still under immense tension and decided to call my friend, Pini Badash, mayor of Omer” (a town near Beer Sheba, S.B). “I explained what had happened to me, and Badash took off in my direction, armed with a pistol.”

Meantime, the Palestinian continued to fix Schwartz’s car She noticed that a broken window in his car and asked him about it. “He replied that he stole the car from a nearby town and was on his way to Daharia” said Schwartz.

The Palestinian finished the fix, and left the place in the stolen car, not before receiving Schwartz’s thanks. “I really felt gratitude,” said Schwartz, “It seems the Hudnah is sinking in peoples minds.”

After the incident was over, Schwartz drove to her factory, where she discovered the alarm call was false alarm.

Sharonbn,

This is one of the funniest posts I've seen in long time. Thanks.

For a different view of the "hudna," i.e., Arab concept of cease-fire, read this site daily. It contains live reports from the front lines:
