Israel Falling Behind Arab Propaganda

Warning signs are growing that Israel‘s failure to convey adequately to the world its justifications for defending against lethal Palestinian terrorism-which, in anything other than the current climate of absurdity, should need no explanation-is hampering Israel‘s ability to defend its citizens and tarnishing the state‘s reputation in the international community.

Israeli Parliamentarian Nehama Ronen told the Knesset (Israel‘s Parliament) last month that Israel‘s online presence is dwarfed by the 3,000-4,000 pro-Palestinian websites weighing in on the Palestinian side of the conflict. Knesset member Michael Eitan said Israelis and Jews in the diaspora should join internet chat groups, establish and frequent pro-Israel sites, and rally their email buddies to support and explain Israel‘s position to their associates around the world.

New Palestinian Strategy: More Dead Palestinian Innocents

A senior member of the Al Aksa Martyrs Brigades, a terrorist group whose mission is to carry out murderous suicide attacks against Israelis, acknowledged last month that its new strategy of attacking Israeli soldiers at checkpoints is directly responsible for raising the Palestinian Arab death toll in the current conflict. The New York Times reported that the official, Naser Badawi, said, "We are losing innocent people as a result of the new strategy," he said. "But this is the price of the occupation." (Feb. 26)

This new tactic, which has included ambushes against Israeli soldiers sleeping in a respite area and attacks on Israeli civilians riding buses near Palestinian-controlled zones, has turned Israeli soldiers manning checkpoints into battle targets. As a result, Israeli soldiers have been forced into the near-impossible position of having to determine whether Palestinians approaching their checkpoints are human bombs intent on attacking them or Palestinian
>civilians trying to cross through the area. This new Palestinian terrorist ploy has raised the numbers both of Palestinian casualties-as Badawi acknowledges-and of Israeli casualties. Clearly, Palestinian terrorism makes a mockery of the sanctity of both Palestinian and Israeli human life.

Palestinian Terrorists Using Ambulances to Transport Arms

Palestinian Arabs are flouting international norms and jeopardizing the safety of the Palestinian civilian population by using ambulances and medical vehicles in terrorist operations. Emergency vehicles are not subject to the same strict security checks at Israeli roadblocks and checkpoints as are other passing vehicles, but the increasing use of medical personnel and vehicles by Palestinian terrorists to transport assailants and weapons into Israel is forcing Israeli forces to scrutinize more rigorously Palestinian emergency medical vehicles.

Wafa Idris, the murderous suicide-bomber who blew herself up on Jerusalem‘s Jaffa Street in January, worked for the Palestinian Red Crescent (the Arab equivalent of the Red Cross) and was sent on her mission by a Palestinian ambulance driver, to cite one example.

This terrorist tactic has further inconvenienced the Palestinian population by slowing down the response time of Palestinian emergency vehicles responding to genuine medical emergencies. Despite the obvious harm that such terrorist groups do to the interests of the Palestinian Arab population, support for terrorism is growing among the Palestinians.

According to the latest poll conducted by the Jerusalem Media and Communication Center, a group run by Palestinian journalists and researchers, a whopping 64% of Palestinians support suicide-bombing attacks against Israeli civilians, 67% support "military operations" inside Israel proper, and at least 40% want the current Intifada to result in the destruction of the State of Israel.

Attacks Compel Israelis to View All Arabs Warily

The persistence of lethal Palestinian Arab attacks against unsuspecting Israelis has made it necessary for every Israeli citizen to adopt an approach of high caution toward Palestinians. While assaults continue by Palestinian workers against their Israeli bosses, by Palestinian youths against their Israeli "friends," and by Palestinian policemen against Israeli civilians, Israelis are learning that every Palestinian must be viewed as a potential assailant.

In one recent incident, a Palestinian man affiliated with Yasser Arafat‘s Fatah faction entered the office of his Israeli employer, Gad Rejwan, in northern Jerusalem‘s Atarot industrial area, and shot him dead at point-blank range. Police said the Palestinian assailant, an employee of Rejwan‘s coffee-packing plant for three years, had no record of any labor dispute with his employer.

According to police, the assailant reportedly fled to his home in a village in Area A, under full Palestinian Authority control. The owners of the coffee factory said they intended to keep the plant open despite the killing and invited the remaining Palestinian employees to return to work the next day.

Here's some good news:

In a Voice of America editorial, the US has called on Arab states to stop broadcasting anti-semitic propaganda over government controlled media.

The United States called on Saudi Arabia and other Arab governments to stop media reports that incite hatred of Jews, urging them to act in the interest of Israeli-Palestinian peace.

I agree that the weight of propaganda favors the Arab side, by far.

However, I was surprised to see this pro-Israeli article in The Independent (a UK paper).

And if the Saudis don't immediately stop the anti-Semitic incitement... The US will invite the Saudi prince to Washington and treat him like royalty!

Here's how a typical Arab "ally" of the US, in its state-run newspaper describes the "facts":

Saudi news: Jews use teen blood in pastries (http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=26802)

Here's a small excerpt from the Saudi article, published March 10:

"For this holiday, the Jewish people must obtain human blood so that their clerics can prepare the holiday pastries. In other words, the practice cannot be carried out as required if human blood is not spilled!!"

...

"These needles do the job, and the victim's blood drips from him very slowly. Thus, the victim suffers dreadful torment – torment that affords the Jewish vampires great delight as they carefully monitor every detail of the blood-shedding with pleasure and love that are difficult to comprehend.

"After this barbaric display, the Jews take the spilled blood, in the bottle set in the bottom (of the needle-studded barrel), and the Jewish cleric makes his coreligionists completely happy on their holiday when he serves them the pastries in which human blood is mixed.

Pretty cool, huh?

For the past year or so I've maintained that Israel is lacking in the PR Department. Last year I emailed someone in the Israli Government and told them as much.

I did read that they were starting a worldwide PR campaign explaining their side of the story but since that nothing. Perhaps it takes several years to get the wheels in motion.

I'm certain that in most if not all Muslim countries they have a ministry off mis-information.

I agree that Israel’s PR is lacking, in comparison, to the Palestinian’s; nevertheless, in fairness to Israel, they are battling the Western Media bias, which kowtows to the pro-Palestinian/Islam propaganda. It isn’t as if, is Israel going one-on-one, but against a hostile, worldwide mass-media: it all sounds too familiar to me. Josef Goebbels, and his kind, must be having a good old-fashioned guffaw, in the depths of hell.

RichardP, I'm thinking about your Geobbels quote. That means the Nazis feared being herded into trains and shoved into gas chambers? A lot of good that little tidbit of knowledge would have done us.

I wasn’t quoting Goebbels but obviously, I missed the mark somewhere along the line. I was attempting to imply that he, Goebbels would be amused that the anti-Semitic/Israel worldview of today is paralleled with that of Nazi Germany…

I think that the trove of Nazi analogies has been mined to the bottom. In my grandmothers day, they used Greece and Rome for their analogies and had a much richer and wider range of things to compare to. We need to look at the present situation for what it is, and for what it is not. One comment I will make. German style anti-semitism seems to be pretty portable. You should note that stuff like the Protocols of Zion is ported over to the Arabs without substantial change in its impact. My hope is that as easily as it ports in, it can be ported out. I've gotta go now, but I have some ideas along those lines.

I can’t disagree with you there. To this day, however, the Final Solution under that regime has set the benchmark, for others, whom loathe Judaism and Israel, to strive towards... to equal, surpass and thus set a knew benchmark.

I don't really know if there is a whole lot that can be done by the Israeli government. Unless the mainstream media changes its tune, the extreme bias against Israel will just continue. If I believed everything the media said, then John Howard wouldn't have had a chance in hell of winning the Australian elections.

RichardP

Exactly, I was glad to see Howard win, if for no other reason than to show the media, the people aren't as stupid as they, the media, believe. I hope it is the same in the US, as the media there, and around the world express ongoing anti-Bush rhetoric.
As you mentioned Da Chuckstar, Israel isn’t only up against Palestinian spin, but of a worldwide effort to smear Israel. I give the folks credit down under; we Canucks are bleating sheep…

Perhaps all I am doing little more than belaboring the obvious here, but any propaganda is only so good as the number of voices that embrace it, and these voices are dependant upon people's sphere's of loyalty as well as exposure. How many people are truly rational or truly objective? How many believe what they believe because of indoctrination? To what degree are people's beliefs admixtures of both?

There are what? about 1.3 billion Muslims in the world today, and rising exponentially due in most part to the incredibly high breeding rates, but also through proselytization. Jews? I think the number is 16 million or something, and without the expolosive population increase. Look ahead 20 years, and there will be over 2 billion muslims and still under 20 million jews. The gap is widening, and now as muslims are propagating through western societies, so is the exposure to the antisemitism in these societies. Now, it's not as if each individual muslim is a rabid Jew hater, but the receptivity for such hatred runs high in the group due to the loyalties involved. Hatred runs hot in some, bubbles just under the surface in others, or is disguised through the use of specious semantics both intentional or unintentional, but a person would have to be a complete fool to not recognize it's existance.

Unfortunately, the world is full of complete fools.

Hatred acts like a virus, and this particular virus has spread through the Muslim world, has now contaminated certain segments of the west (like the idiot fringe left) and is moving ever more towards the center. It's a numbers game, folks, and IMO, it isn't a matter of the viability of the idealogical seeds Israel sows vis a vis the Arabs, but rather the fertility of the ground upon which those seeds fall.

Seems to me that the solutions are obvious. Let's see, now -- if Jewish women were to start producing babies at 14 and then produce one a year until their fertility ended...... yes, good good... and if each Jewish person in the world were to take it upon themself to convert 5...6.., maybe 10 non Jews into the fold (swords not strictly required)...... then by the year..........
