Saudi author arrested over poem

Authorities in Saudi Arabia have arrested a popular poet and dismissed a newspaper editor over the publication of a poem criticising the state's Islamic judiciary.

Reports say the poet Abdul Mohsen Musalam was jailed after he was taken in for questioning in Jeddah four days ago.
It is not clear whether Mr Musalam was charged or if he will face trial.

His arrest follows the publication in Saudi Arabia's al-Madina newspaper on 10 March of Mr Musalam's poem, The Corrupt on Earth.

In it, the poet accused some judges of being corrupt and issuing unfair rulings for their own material benefit.

"It is sad that in the Muslim world, justice is suffering from a few judges who care for nothing but their bank accounts and their status with the rulers," the poem read.

Mr Musalam wrote: "Your beards are smeared with blood. You indulge a thousand tyrants and only the tyrant do you obey."

Islamic law

On Monday, Saudi Arabia's Interior Minister, Prince Nayef, ordered the sacking of al-Madina's editor-in-chief, Mohammed al-Mukhtar al-Fal, for allowing the poem to be published.
Like most Saudi newspapers, al-Madina is controlled by the government.

Sales of al-Madina soared after the poem's publication and demand for the newspaper increased in the following days, French news agency AFP reported.

Criticism of the judiciary, which practices strict Islamic law, or Sharia, is rare in Saudi Arabia.

Unlike western judicial systems, defendants in Saudi Arabia are not generally represented by a lawyer and the judge who hears a case decides the verdict and sentence.

Another fine example of why any country which claims to be concerned with human rights should break off all contacts with Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries who conduct themselves similarly.

By inviting the Saudi Prince to the US, we are legitimizing the human rights violations committed by Saudi Arabia and other similar Arab regimes.

Has anyone really wondered why Arabs are so ready do dispise the Jews??? Is it really in their best intersts to do so?? No. It isn't. Israel is the only country that truly brings in money to that part of the world. The Saudi's are rich... but only the 1% that controles the oil. So why are the Arabs quick in making enemies of us??? The above post explains this phenomina. It's because the Anti-Israeli Governments of the arab world fear a prosperous, mostly liberal, democratic country in their midst. They fear that Israel will set an example. That is why they controle the media, brainwashing it's citizens to hate, bombarding them with propaganda... telling them what to think.

Try writing anything negative about Islam in Egypt. You'll find yourself lokked in a cage in court, found guilty and off to jail.

I don't think being incarcerated there comes near to 1/4 star accomedations.

The Arab legal system consists of standing in front of a mullah judge just to be measured for a coffin, then 1 Jihad bullet to the head... Next defendent!

(process repeats)

The judicial system there is somewhat different than the west.

I don't even think there would be a trial in most cases.

Below is an article form www.cnn.dk

It?s about a female Jordanian Parliamentary Member that was going to hold a press conference to accuse the PM of corruption. She was picked up and thrown in jail because they felt it would damage Islam.

Some democracy and free speech in that country.

[..Surgeons have reattached the penis of a Saudi man who paid the price for trying to have sex with his Filipina maid and she attacked him with a knife, a hospital source said on Monday.

"This is a sophisticated operation. You are dealing with an organ in a difficult area and you want to try to return to its efficiency," said a spokesman at Riyadh's Takhassusi Hospital.

Earlier this month newspapers reported that the maid removed her employer's manhood when he tried to molest her in the middle of the night as his wife was sleeping. The maid is now in police custody...]

Ironic, the maid who hacked off her "employer's manhood" to avoid a rape now sits in prison while the dude stays home hoping to "recover" it.
