A new mass grave discovered in Mosul

A new mass grave was discovered between Mosul and Tele’far , North of Mosul, on last Thursday. It contains the bodies of 400 victims, who were executed for political reasons. Most of these victims are Kurds. Yesterday, the bodies of two victims, Tariq Jameel and Salim Ahmad Jasim, taken back to Dihoke. Both victims executed because of their political activity within Kurdistan Democratic Party. When these victims executed, Saddam’s Government refused to give back their bodies to their relatives and prohibited any condolent ceremony for them.

As they continue to uncover more of Saddam's victims; there will be those who will still condemn his removal from power. We in the west do not appreciate how fortunate we are... thus far.

There’s no question in my mind that removing Hussein from power was the right choice and so was the killing of his sons. Saddam seemed to be playing games with the weapons inspectors one example being removing all the hard drives from computers that perhaps contained damaging information. That’s the main concrete reason that I supported bombing Iraq.

I’ve never bought into the liberation of Iraq; it might sound good but I was never sure what exactly was being liberated. Mass graves are a reality in Islam and I’m certain that if the west had unfettered access to Iran they would find mass graves there as well. There were mass graves throughout the former Soviet Union and Argentina also had their fair share.

The Kurds undoubtedly suffered at the hands of Hussein for a period of time but based on the information that I’ve seen they weren’t completely innocent either.

If it came right down to the wire and I was faced with being subjected to chemical warfare versus being blown to hell with a gasoline vapor bomb, I don’t think it would make much difference to me. War is war and people die innocent or not.

Known mass grave sites in Iraq

Amnesty International said that over the past 20 years it has collected information about 17,000 disappearances in Iraq, but the actual number is much higher. More than 300,000 Iraqis have gone “missing” in the past two decades, according to recent estimates, and many of them are turning up in unmarked burial sites. U.S. and British investigators have been travelling widely in Iraq to find those mass graves. Since the end of the war they have found more than 80 such sites. One Iraqi group has lists containing at least 150 more mass graves. Most of the bodies are from people executed in 1988, 1991 and 1998/99.

Greetings ab afak

I am afraid the figure of 300,000 disappeared victims is a very conservative number. Just in Kurdistan 200,000 women, children and men during infamous anfal campaigns within few years abducted to unknown destination. Bear in mind Saddam Hussein' men have been kidnaping Iraqis to unkown destinations since 8th Feb 1963 when they took over the power for the first time.
