A positive development occurred today for the Israeli right-wing, as the NRP party agreed to join Sharon's coalition government, with Effi Eitam at the helm of the NRP.
Eitam, who was previously quoted as calling Arafat a "lowly murderer" will be part of the government's security cabinet.
Sharon is reportedly also in negotiations with the National Union/Yisrael Beiteinu (the party of the late Rehavam Zeevi) to rejoin the government, and it looks likely that the talks will succeed.
With these two parties back in the fold, Sharon will no longer need the labour party, headed by Peres and "Fuad" Ben Eliezer, to maintain a majority rule.
This is probably the beginning of the end for the Peres/Fuad meddling in the government's policies, allowing Sharon to forge ahead with a uniform policy of aggressively fighting Palestinian terrorism.
btw - another added benefit is if Peres resigns, then the job of foreign minister will open up. Maybe by sheer coincidence, Bibi Netanyahu was quoted yesterday in the Israeli press as saying that, in addition to helping out Israel's PR efforts, Bibi would be amenable to joining Sharon's cabinet, but only in the function of foreign minister.
Now, there is a good chance that the foreign ministry position will be available very soon.
