Basically, the US government, over a month ago, paid an undisclosed amount to free two captive American missionaries in a region of the Philippines where Al Qaeda is active.
From a humanitarian standpoint, it is understandable the US would do this. But it is a terrible precedent for dealing with Al Qaeda. And the hostages have not been freed either.
