To: Hon. Kofi Annan, United Nations Secretary General
Hon. Colin Powell, United States Secretary of State
Hon. Jack Straw, British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs
Dr. Mohammad Javad Zarif, Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN

The Simon Wiesenthal Center and its supporters around the world are appealing to you on humanitarian grounds to intervene on behalf of the families of twelve missing Iranian Jews who disappeared between 1994 and 1997, most, while attempting to cross the border from Iran into Pakistan while seeking to be reunited with their families. There is no indication that any of them has been charged or tried for any crime.

Several eyewitnesses claim they have seen some of the missing in Iranian jails and others in a detention center, but to date nothing has been substantiated. Several years ago, two credible Iranian officials privately assured a family member in Iran that the men were alive and had been transported to a prison in Tehran. However, to date, the families of the disappeared have been unable to obtain any definitive information from Iranian authorities as to the whereabouts of their loved ones. On their behalf, as Jewish families gather to celebrate the Passover Seder, we ask your assistance in reuniting these twelve individuals with their loved ones.
