Turn the entire ignore list on/off in one shot to enable one to see all the PMs from people on their ignore list and flush them out.

Either reject a PM send to someone who has you on their ignore list or at least notify the sender that the message will be hidden and probably never read.

Turn on the receipts function or eliminate it totally.

Wish list>> this is probably impossible but I'd like to see the ignore function carried to every quoted post from a name on the ignore list. The post that is quoting is fine but the source - the quote - should be blanked out.

As you probably know, I personally favor the abolition of the ignore function. My reasoning is that it is used far more to control the various threads than it is to avoid obnoxious posters. oliver is especially adept at doing this and for those who read here without posting and are unaware of the ignore function, it may appear that he is the main player.

As long as I'm on oliver, it is clear that he has nothing to add, if he ever did and yet his disruption continues. I don't really understand how Newsguy thinks of him as a "contribution".

Concerning the last point you made in your post, I halfway agree with you, but there are times that non-ignored people are helpful in forcing the french posters to at least have to scroll by something if not read it, by quoting it.

What is the logic of even having an "ignore function"? No offense, but it seems kind of lame to me.

Well based on the feedback I rec'd yesterday there isn't much anyone can or should do for posters like that and it simply saves me the trouble of worrying about it. Like I said, it's someone else's problem. If trolling is what they want trolling is what they'll get.

But here is another suggestion> If the 'New Posts' result for a thread points to a post (and its the last post in the thread) and that post belongs to someone on the ignore list then scratch that result from the New Posts panel. There's no need to reach into a thread only to find one post from someone on the killfile. It just wastes time.

...flush them out.

My favorite part.

Thanks - what I meant was I didn't realize that when you put someone on your ignore list, their PM's to you are completely invisible, or they were with the old code. That is, you wouldn't see a one-liner "This person is on your ignore list" you wouldn't see anything at all. And then those same selfsuffering s would make a huge deal about how they personally floated down from Mt. Olympus to write me a PM and how dare I ignore them. It would be better for them to know I'm not going to see the note and there is zero chance I would read it if I did; just going to delete unread.

I've put some time into this and can't find an easy solution.

It seems obvious that if someone's private messages are not getting through, they aught to be notified automatically, but it's not the case so far as I can see. There is also no master switch to control the overall private messaging system that I can locate.

If someone knows something to the contrary, please LMK.
