The Likud and Labor parties will sign the coalition agreement they reached Saturday, after negotiating teams met into the night and a solution was found to the recent crisis in the talks.
According to Israel Radio, the primary problem left to negotiations is the way in which alterations would be made to the Basic Law: Government in order to allow Labor chairman MK Shimon Peres to serve in the position of second deputy prime minister. It was agreed the law would be changed before the new government is sworn in, but Likud MK Michael Eitan said over the weekend it would be problematic to change the law in such a short period of time.
