Soldiers of an elite unite who were guarding the settlement of Mevo Dotan in the West Bank are suspected of breaking into settlers' homes and stealing electrical appliances, Israel Radio said early Monday.
Military sources told reporters that the settlers had not been in the houses for some time, and the troops' commanding officer discovered the robbery even before the residents knew of the loss of their possessions.
The commander alerted the security chief in the settlement and discussed the robbery with him.
An Israel Defense Forces spokesperson said the incident was unusual, and the army will be harsh in its treatment of the perpetrators.
Most of the possessions were returned to their owners the day the robbery was revealed.
The soldiers who allegedly stole the equipment will be tried by their commanders.
