Poll finds Americans back pullout
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3111709,00.html

JERUSALEM - The Anti-Defamation League says its newest poll finds that Americans strongly support Israel's planned disengagement from Gaza and the Northern West Bank and believe Israel is more serious about peace than the Palestinians.

The poll comes on the heels of a poll by the anti-disengagement Zionist Organization of America that reported nearly opposite findings.

"You ask the questions you want, we'll ask the questions we like," Foxman said. "We've been in the polling business long enough. One can always ask a question differently. We felt that was the best way to ask it."

The ADL question stated that Israel has decided unilaterally to withdraw from the Gaza Strip without a peace agreement, and then asked respondents whether that was a "bold step toward peace or not." A total of 71 percent of respondents said they agreed with that statement.

The Zionist Organization of America poll, released June 30, said Americans oppose “Israel’s unilateral withdrawal from a section of Gaza and Northern Samaria” and “forcing 10,000 Israeli Jews from their homes and businesses” by a margin of 63-16 percent.

Pro-disengagement activists in the U.S. said last week they questioned the ZOA's poll, as it ran counter to others.

I guess this proves the statement that you can get whatever results you wish from a public poll, providing you state the question in a certain way.

Maybe it means that unlike your perfect paradise there is in fact a diversity of opinion and look....no one goes to jail for it.

First of all, I don't see why the need for the snide remark. You cannot give a straight answer without this provocation?

Second, well, you are dead wrong. Please bother to read the article before making yet another unnecessary snide remark. One poll shows 63 percent against withdrawal and one poll shows 71 percent in favor - this is not a display of diversity, as each poll is tring to show an overwhelming majority for one side. no, this is a display of contradiction.

Explaining it to you would be a waste of my time.

LOL!

I back both groups. You can always count on the ZOA for their outright loyalty to Israel-American relations, even when they defend sell-outs like SharonBN and Ophra while you can always depend on the ADL's over-sensitivity.

Strange comment from a Russian coward who is about to marry a goy

Sell-out huh ?? How come ??

I have a husband and three children in the IDF , I myself served 6 years.
My father gave his life to the Army and my brother gave his life for this country in 1967. Plus I have lost three other family members to terror.

I have lived through every war in our history and each and every terror attack .

My grand-parents and my parents built this country whilst yours were hiding in Russia :p
You on the other hand have done what for Israel ???????????
How many days have you spent here ?????

Just who is the sell-out ?????????????????????????????????????????

Funny question coming from someone who doesn't consider themself Jewish anyway. You should embrace diversity with your philosophy. Or more food from the troph, which ever is easiest for you. By the way, do your kids call you mom or mooo?

Balls? Definately more teets! But keep telling yourself whatever makes you feel thinner. So now you are a Jew? Talk about confused. I think you need a little more Ginko Biloba in your diet.

Anyway, thats my last flame post. Before we get narced of course. Go ahead, get your last word (utter) out, if it will make you feel better.

That fact is about 50% of American Jews are pretty fed up with hearing about Israel. Whether they support withdrawal or not, and that is a completely agendized self selecting group dependant on who you ask, is of secondary concern. And it has little to do with overarching American politics since just as many right wing rabidly pro Republican Jews are likely to agree with whatever policy issues forth from the White House as those hard core Zionists like the Chabad who say 'not one inch, not one rock'. On the other side of the aisle the ADL likes to paint itself as the picture of enlightened reason that attempts to appeal to both sides. It prefers to see the withdrawal in terms of the American experience of antisemitism. So the withdrawal is seen as the 'rational' approach that can only make the lives of all Jews better off (I paraphrase). Considering there is no middle in religious Judaism in America it's not hard to see this kind of polarization. The liberal Reform/Reconstructionist and egalitarian Masorti wings generally, and this is a vast generalization, support complete withdrawal and a Palestinian state. The more conservative OU, MO, Chabad, Agudath and Conservadox are far less enthusiastic though even within those groups, like Chabad which has a surprising number of Israeli expats there are clusters that also want to cut and run.

But on the whole and statistics back me up on this, American Judaism has focussed more on animal rights than human rights. All one need do is go to any Bnai Mitzvah class in a Conservative or Reform school and ask the children where their tzdakah is going. The most frequent response will be to some animal shelter or the like. So we've made our choice here in the diaspora: Dogs Yes, People No. Israelis should listen hard to this message.

It was one of you Sabras who raised this point. So? What kind of 'survey' were you expecting? We are many and you are few.

It also helps to understand that other than yesterday, Israel has disappeared from the cable news channels. Most Americans haven't heard or seen anything about Israel in weeks and weeks. So when any group surveys a bunch of Jews they are looking at groups that already have some fairly strong opionions, even if those opinions are retarded.

Assuming the samples were fairly chosen I think that much of a variation probably suggests a substantial number of people are undecided or not very bothered either way so that the wording of the question is more significant.
