Prime Minister Tony Blair of the United Kingdom

Dear Prime Minister Blair:

I join with the 400,000 constituent families of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in expressing my condolences to your nation for the great tragedy it has suffered and particularly to the families of the innocents murdered and maimed in London by Jihadist suicide terrorists. We applaud your leadership in encouraging all citizens of the United Kingdom to reject the 'culture of death' that too many young Muslims around the world have embraced.

In this connection we are buoyed by the announcement of a group of Sunni religious leaders for their unequivocal condemnation of all suicide bombing. This extraordinary declaration parallels the Simon Wiesenthal Center's campaign to have the international community declare all suicide bombings, "Crimes Against Humanity". We hope that you will endorse such an action which would empower the victims of these heinous crimes to legally pursue all those involved in inciting or abetting such atrocities.

I add my voice to the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s international campaign urgently requesting that your government bar the re-entry of Sheik Yussuf Al Qaradawi into the UK. Unfortunately, this theological validator of suicide terror was previously welcomed by London Mayor Ken Livingstone, despite an infamous 2002 fatwa issued by Qaradawi and republished by the Hamas terrorist organization to legitimize and justify their suicide bombing campaign.

The Sheik’s scheduled attendance at an August 7, 2005 conference in Manchester has been confirmed by The Ramadhan Foundation. His presence there would mock the victims of terror and weaken the struggle for the voices of moderation to prevail within the Muslim world. We therefore urge your government to ban Sheik Qaradawi from the UK, and all those who legitimize terrorism and extremism in the name of Islam.
