View Full Version : Colin and Dubya's Double Standard

I was reading two news stories side-by-side today.

In the first one, Israel used a single F-16 to bomb an empty Palestinian police station following the Jerusalem suicide bombing. Sharon and his spokesman Raanan Gissim were assuring the world that Israel's reaction would be "measured" and "limited." The whole world needed to be assured that Israel would not do much when its citizens were being murdered and its very existence is in danger.

In the second news item, I read how the U.S. and the U.K. sent 20(!) F-16s to bomb Iraq, which poses no direct threat to either country, but just to reinforce the no-fly zone. No apologies to the world were needed. No justification. No criticism from the self-riteous Europeans about a "disproportionate" reaction.

Yes, George Dubya Bush, who campaigned saying "the U.S. needs to stand besides its real friends against terrorism," and his pet Colin Powell, are always first to force Israel to limit its reaction to terror, but when it comes to bombing Iraq, there is always a completely different standard.

The U.S. State Dept. againt condemned Israel for taking military action against Arab terrorists.

At the same time, the U.S. annoucned a "sustained" air attack on Iraq.

What a bunch of losers.

I agree that this attacks on Iraq are completely disproportionated, illegal and unilateral, even more so than the attacks on the PA. But this has been condamned by most European countries(except by the puppet of the US Blair), by most Arab countries and by the UN as well.
but no single sincere person can say that the US is biased against Israel or pro-palestinian?
Come one, the US blocked most UN-proposals condamning and punishing Israel for its continued occupation of westbank, Gaza and Eastern Yerusalem. The US did not stop aid and military aid for Israel, even after 30 years and more of ignoring UN-resolutions and international laws and surpressing the human rights of most palestinians. Other countries have been embargoed and bombed for much less. Bush called on Arafat to stop terrorism, even if it was clear that the policy of israel to destroy the PA and its continued intrusions and aggression made this effort very difficult. he called on Arafat to stop terrorism, but didn't call on Israel to stop to build new settlements and withdraw from the occupied territories. even when it is clear to the whole world that those two questions are linked together in a deadly embrace.
