Hey, I'm new here, so if this sort of subject has come up before sorry for repeating. I also didn't know if this subject was appropriate for this forum, so if it isn't just move it.

What do you believe the goal is for the Israeli and Palestinian Governments? Peace? Drive the Jews into the sea? ethnically cleanse the Middle east with slow but steady conquest of the Arab nations?

My opinion is the Jews are working for peace, whereas the Palestinian government (whether reformed or unreformed) is working for "taking back" all of Israel.

I don't like governments. Generally. My hunch is that the "Palestinian government's" goals (it's not quite a government since Palestine is not quite a state) - as represented by Mr. Arafat - is to secure for Mr. Arafat the kind of lifestyle he is used to, and that the Israeli government's goals - as represented by Mr. Sharon - is to win the next elections (which requires the preservation of a part of the Israeli population).

Well, in a Democracy the idea is that elections are won by people believed to be able "to bring good things to life", which is exactly why the main thrust of such governments is the creation of economic prosperity for as many citizens as possible (short of a military conflict, when the goal is protection of the majority of the citizens). In fact, it's this confluence of goals that makes Democracy preferable.
