The recent Sharon move to the center of the Likud and Labor and the Peres' endorsement of Sharon demonstrate that Jews are still dreaming of the brighter future for Jews and Arabs alike. Idealism is alive and well within the Jewish mentality, society and culture. Our people are dreamers the world fears, misunderstands, misinterprets and even hates. The Europeans slaughtered the majority of Jews. The Arab kicked them out but the Jew remains tolerant, ethical, moral and very idealistic. How can anyone be dreaming of peace in a tiny democracy on 0.1% of the Middle Eastern landmass surrounded by the violent, tyrannical, backward Arab regimes occupying 99.9% of the land? Well, the Jews obviously can.

Isn't that half the point of being "the chosen people?"

Not really! The "chosen people" are the keepers of the book. Hence, the meaning of the chosen. However, those who hate the Jews always misinterpete it portraying the Jews as superior, arrogant, etc.

Is it really just about keeping the book, or keeping the law, and more than that, the spirit of the law. Of being a nation of priests...
