Not that there is anything particularly new in this article, but it's very well written, IMO, and crystallizes what seems to be a "Leftie" view of how to proceed:

From the article:

A challenge to the Palestinian people
By Gershon Baskin, Ph.D. June 20, 2002

I know hundreds of Palestinians on a personal basis. Many of them I have known for many years. Not one of them supports terrorism. All of them deplore the acts of suicide bombers and condemn those acts with real sincerity. After each such suicide attack I receive tens of phone calls from Palestinians expressing their condemnation, horror, sadness and even apologies. I believe that each person expressing those emotions and beliefs are sincere and true to their honest beliefs, worldview and value system that terrorism is wrong.

This could have been written in Germany during the 1930’s and 1940’s, different players, different tactics but still the same game. In the end the Nazis exterminated 6 million Jews and 5 million Gentiles.

I’m certain that Germans expressed their condemnation, horror, sadness and even apologies.

What side does anyone think that the Palestinians would take in an all out conflict of Islam vs. Jews? The answer is crystal clear in my mind.

Right. That's why that last paragraph of this article is so essential:

"This is the challenge to all of my many Palestinian friends and to many more who are not yet my friends: Stand up tall and proud and root out the support for terrorism from within your midst. "

The last statement is important to be sure. I don?t see this conflict as Palestinian vs. Israel and I suppose that?s why I ignored it.

Here?s a partial list of organizations dedicated to eliminating Jews.

1. Abu Nidal Organization (ANO)

3. Gama?a al-Islamiyya (Islamic Group)
4. HAMAS (Islamic Resistance Movement)
5. Hizballah (Party of God)

8. Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MEK
9. National Liberation Army (ELN)
10. Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ)
11. Palestine Liberation Front (PLF)
12. Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP)

14. Al-Qaida/Islamic Army*
15. Abu Sayyaf Group*
16. Armed Islamic Group (GIA)*
17. Harakat ul-mujahidin (HUM)*
18. Al-Jihad (Egyptian Islamic Jihad)*
19. Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU)*
20. Asbat al-Ansar
21. Salafist Group for Call and Combat (GSPC)
22. Libyan Islamic Fighting Group
23. Al-Itihaad al-Islamiya (AIAI)
24. Islamic Army of Aden

I think we all know that funding, training and monetary compensation comes from external sources. Why do I say that? Because I?m certain that many Jews in Europe thought that they wouldn?t be let down by their German friends and that just wasn?t so (generally speaking). Was it?

Personally I think the letter is based on pipe dreams and wishful thinking and it might do more damage than good if it makes Israelis put down their guards. Every Palestinian should be considered dangerous without exception according to polls.

It seems to me that Israeli "mainstream Left" has demonstrated its good sense beyond a doubt. They are not suicidal, and they are not crazy. They are willing to be open-minded, but they are not willing to be anybody's fools either.

To me, that's what this letter is all about. What Dr. Baskin is saying, as I understood it anyway, is that the ball is in the moderate Palestinians' court. It's up to them to begin the process of reclaiming the Palestinian conscience from the nuts who hijacked it.

I firmly believe that their religion plays a large (if not all) part in what’s happening in the ME. What if they didn’t believe in an afterlife? For that matter what if the families weren’t rewarded for their children’s actions there most likely wouldn’t be suicide killers if it wasn’t for their beliefs of a reward for their actions) .

Islam isn’t going to disappear and neither is Islamic Law. If you say something even remotely bad about Mohammed in any Islamic country then you’re dead meat.

Here's a challenge to the Palistinians. Please in the futre go out to the desert and test fire your bomb belts to make sure the operator knows how they work. When you're sure and/or all the bombers are dead come back and we'll talk.

After watching the movie relentless, one may come away with a differenct perspective. A Palestinian university in Gaza, which reconstructed the Sabbaro Pizza massacre (making a musuem)- with everything including pizzas and body parts (a ripped torso included) did so in an attempt to praise the actions of the terrorists. This epitomises the Palestinian trend.

Of coarse I didnt need the movie relentless to give me a wake up call..not after visiting the PA myself.
Seeing incitment and hatred played out against Jews in PA controlled T.V, newspapers and radio is quite common. Seeing Palestinians dance in the streets after every act of murder is quite common....nothing out of the ordinary here.
