Does anyone know where I can find some good articles on why the British found it favourable to sign the Balfour agreement in the first place, and then later became violently anti-semitic by renegging on their promise and in a way being complicit of helping the Nazis kill Jews?
Oh, and I would also like to read some articles about the plight of Jews in the former Soviet Union and under Stalin.

Why are you trying to make an enemy out of a state who is not one?
Please don't take this as bragging rights for I assure you it hasn't opened any doors for us in Canada but my brother is titled and the 13th Baronet of...........xxxxx
I mention this ONLY because it will give you at least a good idea of what sort of background I originate from and my own parents came to Canada to escape the pompous nature of such people.
they didn't place any importance in such titles, nor do we
But the point is.............generally as a rule they are very anti-Semitic within that particular class structure!
I cant speak for the other classes, but the ones my parents escaped from most definitely are! :(

According to Tom Segev, Meinertzhagen is a dubious source. Four days before the pogrom of 1920, he had written to the Foreign Office: "I do not anticipate any immediate trouble in Palestine". Later he blamed the behavior of the Brits on a plot. Allenby threatened to resign and Meinertzhagen was ordered out.Quote:

I hate Snobs. Stupid to think they only exist in England though, and I'm sure you weren't saying that.
As regards snobbery and anti-semitism, I was interested in what you say, as here in OXford we have a group called Sloanes... basically people whose dads are multi-millionaires, only hang round with each other and have their own little network etc. Usually pumped full of coke as well, but that's not the point.
Point is Jews are well represented within this group, at least they are in my experience

Now, to some degree I will assume that my parents generation was also more prone to anti-semetism than our generation is but we have it here as well.
Ive heard several British suggest that the European Jews are much more "sophisticated" than the American Jews, which to my ears is equally anti-semetic....if not more so!

Britian committed horrible dispeakable crimes against us for years. Forbiding Jewish refugee immigration to the land of Israel during and following the Hollocaust. Collaborating with Arabs against us, turning a blind eye towrd repeated massacres and progrom mades agains us, during British occupation. Arming Arabs. Selling Arabs advanced weapons. For lesser crimes, any normal country would challange Britain for its crimes in the battlafield. So we don't like the brits very much, even if we hate others much more.

(and in fact swung back slightly towards Israel in the 1950's)

Our soldiers fought the Nazis and ended up dying at Jewish hands, thats a FACT.
So forgive us if we're not too sympathetic when you whine about terrorism.
