  1. Re: Sanity Check About Palestinian Arab Demographics

Well, if we follow this logic then we should be wondering about the demographics of the region indeed - not starting in 1800, though, but beginning in the 7th century CE. Correct? What have been the...
  2. Re: Coalition deal: Fewer benefits for haredim, draft reform

I think you should define what do you mean by religious parties. I'm taking the usual meaning within Israel, i.e. the Haredi parties.

    Stuff like this, for example.
  3. Re: Coalition deal: Fewer benefits for haredim, draft reform

Indeed, non-religious parties are corrupt as well. But some of the stuff we've seen from the Haredi parties is just too much for my and the Israeli public's taste.
  4. Re: Coalition deal: Fewer benefits for haredim, draft reform

I said it tongue in cheek, but both interpretations are fine to me.

Religious parties have become so corrupt that maybe God would rather let seculars, if not atheists and agnostics, to rule for a...
  5. Re: Coalition deal: Fewer benefits for haredim, draft reform

It would be weird for a God to punish the religious parties and put secular parties in the government instead.
  6. Re: Coalition deal: Fewer benefits for haredim, draft reform

I hope it succeeds on its economic reforms. Some are sorely needed for Israel to be able to improve its competitiveness in the long term.
  7. Re: Holocaust, questioning Jewish link to biblical Hebrews

Indeed, the autosomal data is far from being easy to interpret, especially if you do PCAs of the patterns of SNPs. But using only Y-DNA and mt-DNA give us an incomplete picture too, given that they...
  8. Re: Holocaust, questioning Jewish link to biblical Hebrews

Those are interesting and valid points - the historical link between contemporary Ashkenazi Jews and Khazars is far from clear -, though I'm not really a fan of these gender-based genetic analyses...
  9. Re: Holocaust, questioning Jewish link to biblical Hebrews

I'm amazed at the misreporting of Elhaik's findings. Just in case you guys are curious, these are the hypotheses he's trying to test:

  10. Re: Israel-Turkey reconciliation: PM 'expresses apology'

    It's unusual we both agree.

Honestly, once Israel said it regrets the deaths of civilians, this became purely about face. These Turkish ads only reinforce this idea IMO.
  11. Re: Israel-Turkey reconciliation: PM 'expresses apology'

Meh, honestly I don't see much of a difference between "regret" and "apology"

Re: RIP: Good Riddance to Hugo Chavez

Chances are that his VP will remain in power, for a while at least. There should be an election in a month or so, not enough time for Chávez' memory to fade. Once this happens, the real test for the...
  13. Re: Lib Dem MP David Ward suggests 'the Jews' had not learned the lessons of the Holo

I actually think this is (or should be) more humiliating than being forced to leave the party.

Re: Kibbutz - Success Or Failure

If you remove communism, what's the difference between a Kibbutz and a Moshav?

    Re: Perspective

Even you said this wasn't the case. At least not at the beginning of the war, in terms of military hardware.

I do agree though that the Haganah was in a position to defeat the Palestinian...

Re: Kibbutz - Success Or Failure

Looking at Wikipedia, it seems the Kibbutzim were always in crisis success stories notwithdtanding:

Does anyone have more information about this?

Re: Kibbutz - Success Or Failure

My understanding is that the Kibbutzim began to collapse during Israel's lost decade, i.e. before the fall of the USSR.
  18. Re: Israeli 2013 Elections - Who would you vote for?

Under their plan, the IDF would stay in the West Bank.

Their website says they will publish a detailed plan in the future. I do find interesting, though, that there are settlers who do indeed...

Re: 2013 Israel Elections - Final Results

If Yesh Atid isn't willing to join a coalition with Haredi parties, I wouldn't be surprised if Bibi was forced to form a coalition along with Yesh Atid, Hatnua, Kadima and either Labor or Habayit...
  20. Re: Israeli 2013 Elections - Who would you vote for?

What kind of control is that in which the different factions and clans start shooting each other on the street? That's like saying the Lebanese Army controls all of Lebanon.

    Anyway, it seems the...
  21. Re: Israeli 2013 Elections - Who would you vote for?

Really? It definitely addresses the mistake of leaving territory so terrorists can take over.

It seems they haven't published a detailed plan yet, so we certainly cannot refute their claims...
  22. Re: Israeli 2013 Elections - Who would you vote for?

I'd vote Labor as I think it's the most likely to be able to implement something like this.

Sticky: Re: 50 Responses to criticisms of Israel

I think that they don't even realize that they are being condescending towards the Third World in general. As such I think it's different from the explicit racism you can find in far-right circles.

Sticky: Re: 50 Responses to criticisms of Israel

That's only when it serves them, though. Many tend to overlook it when it comes to rocket attacks by Hamas against Israeli civilian targets by labeling them as resistance against Israel, as if the...

Re: Abbas says 'no' to Jewish state

And how would Barghouti deal with Hamas' guns? That doesn't make much sense to me.
