I go to France for bussiness reasons from time to time and I must say that most of the French people are very prejudiced against the foreign people and especially against their own immigrants. so if you keep treating people with this kind of mind, keep acting like they are the second class human beings then the riots and violence are inevitable. this is noting to do with religion. black people in US has been in a similar situation for ages.

Well I asked Medkorp but he didn't answer so I'll ask you - Do you think the French are prejudiced against Arabs or foreign people in general? Just saying b/c I don't see the Chinese or Japanese or Turkish people rioting or anything...And African Americans (black people in US) have not rioted like that in something like 15 years.

KetteleWhistle: Who's ethnically "pure"? To take Spain for example, the Spanish are believed to be 10% Jewish from the those Jews who assimilated due to Inquisition.

Ethnic purity doesn't really exist. That doesn't mean that ehtnic identities, histories, and traditions do not exist. Denying yours, and claiming that "it's just a religion" is really just denial.

What makes you think I'm denying anything? If anything I'm accepting the diversity of background of most people. I'm saying that the cultural influence and nationality provided by the country in which a person is born has an enormous influence on their outlook and identity, that many intermarriages have existed that form today's individual. I'm arguing that Jews are nationals of any country in the same way as other religions, otherwise all Roman Catholics had better settle in Rome for example... what you are saying is that religion is a barrier to national identity. Maybe some people do not like the country they were born in, but that's another issue.

    Nonsense!

Aysun: I go to France for bussiness reasons from time to time and I must say that most of the French people are very prejudiced against the foreign people and especially against their own immigrants.
I'm very sorry to hear that. Have you got any examples? The Armenian community doesn't have any difficulties here

No. What I'm saying is that it's not about religion. It's about ethnic identity. Your comparison to Roman Catholics is as absurd as the definition of Jews by religion. Roman Catholics are not descendants of Romans. Most Jews are direct descendants of Israelites who were expelled from Israel by the Romans.

But I thought the French hated anyone who was not French

The military is the best tool to make French/Americans/Brits/Germans et. al. out of first generation foreigners.

You go into most basic training programs and you are ALL slime, scum and dirt bags. You are then rebuilt as French, German, American soldiers.

Some of our best soldiers are Mexican first generation.

The military also provides a "family" for those tempted to get into "gang families".

So, perhaps Western governments should make it a requirement for the first generation born of imigrants to serve in the military.

It will never happen, but it would be the best thing in my view.

    Here my answer:

French people are not racist! As any other state, there's a lots of differents peoples, so it's the same for the ideas!

As any other nation, there's some people who are racist, but it's not an important part of the state.

After this, you need to see which one his a real racist and wich one his racist because of his situation (i mean if he have a job, or some troubles with immigrant).

So for me french are not racist.

lol, you're wrong french don't hate anybody in particular, but have an idea for everything!

I've done my military service in France (of course, i'm a french) but if when i was yong, racism or racist wasn't a trouble for me. I thought it was not my problem after all and if a body is racist, he has a trouble, not me!

But when i entered in the army, i discovered what is the racism:

    - They asked me to works in the infirmiery (i've done accountancy studies, but who cares?)
    - The first thing my adjudant say to me: You're not in your casbah here so i'm watching you)
    - During my service my father died, so i returned to my family for 5 days, with the permission of my captain. But when i returned to the military camp 5 days later my adjudant have say that i have tried to escape my military service.

Of course, during several months my adjudant and several others have learned me the real definition of racism and of course stupidity!

So even if i know all militaries are not the sames, i'm not sure it's the only one solution.

But at least there's one good thing in the army: it's to see the others and to live with them.

well, I have no particular examples because I didn't spend very long time there. my longest visit was only 2 weeks long. but this is the feeling that they give you when you are there. such as, when they hear your accent their faces change, or their attitude change towards you. small things but when this kind of things happen frequently then you start to feel like you are not welcomed in this country. they just want you to feel this way. which is not the case in Turkey at all. we always welcome foreigners here. that's why I am very surprised with their attitude.

besides, I must say my look is not very different than any European. I have white skin, blonde hair, etc. so I can't really imagine the frustration of immigrants who have dark skin color. that's why I never got surprised when I saw all those burning cars and riots last year in Paris. if you discriminate people constantly then violence is inevitable.
