That's precisely why Iran would never attack any country even with conventional weapons, let alone nukes. Even the mullahs know that. The moment Iran show any sign up real threat it will be the end of the Islamic rule.

    Theodikritis,
Under the current circumstance US will need to link Iran to Iraq and convince the American people that Iran is responsible for the American casualties in Iraq.

This potential war is not much about WMD's. Iraq had WMD for years and US even supported Saddam. Once Saddam was linked to Al-qaida, even the UN didn't matter.

Perhaps parsi and the other iranians of which you speak were not ones who were able to cast 300 votes apeice in the last election...I also seem to recall that (at least some - if not all) opposition candidates were baned from running (and just prior to the election I think)...

Before Ahmadinejad came to power, the moderate presidential candidates had been disqualified by the so called Guardian Council.

The elections in Iran is a joke. Having said that, Ahmadinejad manipulated people during his presidential campaign. There was no talk of Islamic fundementalism or Israel, but the guy did his U-turn anyway.

Iranians have never been so apathetic towards politics as they are now. They don't want war, because they don't like it and they never have.

Let's just hope all the wise and decent politicians will prevail.

He's messing up the economy - off with his head.

TEHRAN: President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is coming under pressure on several fronts at home, just a month after the United Nations Security Council imposed its first sanctions on Iran to curb its nuclear program.
Members of the Iranian Parliament criticized the president in two documents this week for his handling of the nuclear crisis and the faltering economy.

Last week two hard-line newspapers criticized Ahmadinejad for his comments about the country's nuclear program, saying he had complicated the matter. Although the sanctions imposed by the Security Council on Dec. 23 concerned the Iranian nuclear program, they had begun to affect the economy. About 50 legislators signed a letter this week calling on the president to appear before Parliament to answer questions about the nuclear case. But 72 signatures are needed to mandate an appearance.
As a youth I used to weep in butcher's shops.

"He's messing up the economy - off with his head."

The puppeteer mullahs can blame him then replace him with a fresh puppet.
    Good idea on their part.

"I believe that Iran is a chess-pawn of the eastern alliance."

Client status does not equal pawnlike submission.
Iran can be doing what it wishes to do, be useful to others, and like all clients thrown away. China and Russia would not fight for an expendable country.

of course the eastern alliance will not give a damn about Iran. So it's still like chess. We make our pawns to fight on the board. We are not actually fighting with each other.
North Korea was similar; not exactly same. I mean, Chinese or Russian troops aren't exist in Iran but hey we are in 21st century. They don't need to send troops to support Iran. Check the list of weapons which Iran purchased and nuclear purchases.
Iran has full Russian technology. Even the Shahab includes something "made in Russky".

Parsi what do you think about the possibility of regime change in Iran within next 10-15 years? What do young generation of Iranians think about today's regime and the possibility of change?

Can we expect to see a revolution in Iran, just like Ukraine,Georgia and Kyrgyzstan?

I don't think there will be any more revolutions after the one in 1979 was hijacked by the Islamic regime. The young generation (70% of the population) want prosperity, economic growth and more global interaction.

People are sick of hearing about the anti-Zionist and anti-western remarks of the regime.

If Iran is not attacked, I believe eventually the regime will be phased out quietly as they have lost their touch with the society. The younger generation is now more conscious of their Iranian identity and they don't like being associated with Islam or the Arab world.

After a revolution overthrowing mullas regime, do you think a new goverment might shift toward leniency in dealing with non muslims??
I have some doubts because your collective psyche is too influenced by kuran's edicts
The only way out to me would be the generalized(re)conversion to Zarahustra

    golani,

In my view (and experience) the government is not particularly hostile to non-muslimns. It's the small group of confused Muslims who take advantage of the situation and harass non-muslims. It's also important to note that the government don't have a clear law to stop religious harassment except against Islam. This is where it all becomes a bit grey.

The way forward for Iran is evolution (as opposed to revolution) towards a non-religious state.

I seriously believe there is a chance for Iran and Israel to 'openly' re-establish their friendship.

It's a very nice effort Alexander and welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, there are already too many apologists for Ahmedinnerjacket in the US, the bulk residing in your hometown.

    Hi Yala,

Thanks for the kind words. You are right, there are WAY too many apologists for Ahmadinejad in the US, especially in this town. It seems that our hands are tied politically, and that Israel will have to go at it alone on the strike.
