The Smith River is one of the most beautiful in California, popular with kayakers and salmon fishermen alike. It is the last undammed, natural flowing river west of the Mississippi. This time of year however, during the rainy season, it can be dangerous since its banks are high and its current fast. A local angler's boat capsized and he drowned on Jan 5. Local authorities searched for the body for the past two weeks, but it was only after three very special rescue dogs took on the search, that the body was finally located....under twenty feet of fast flowing water!
