I Hope this is the right place to ask why can't we avatars in IF.

It would be nice (imo) to add a pic to your username like these,

Avatars eat up bandwith. They slow my browsing and reading speed. Haveing seen your logos - I'd have no use to see them alongside with everything you are going to be posting.
I adblock avatars elsewhere. Like .../forum/avatars/*

As far as I know vBulletin supports avatars as well, so why isnt this option allowed here? I doubt it would slow down that much the forum. How many members does the forum have? If not around thousands then it shouldnt be a problem.
Anyway avatars make the forum just nicer and more interesting.

Avatars make a forum much nicer and enjoyable regarding the outlook.

Hi Stella! I agree with you. Avatars are always a kind of art. Most of the forums have them because it's a good and enjoyable (like you said) to read posts from so different members.

In addition an avatar is also a form of self expression. Well this forum is no way a chat type one, so dont know why some worry about it.

Having posted here for a long time now, I shudder at the thought of avatars. I think there would be untold problems with them. There would be a lot of offensive ones and the moderators would have a lot of extra work dealing with problem ones.

For example, during the Israel/Hizbollah war last year, there was a shocking amount of anti-semitism on the board from new posters. If they had avatars too to express their feelings and thoughts, it would have been a lot worse.

I can't see it working, to be honest. I think the forum is OK as it is.

Well in accordance with freedom of speech and freedom of expression I see nothing wrong in avatars, as long as the users abide by the forum rules. If the rules clearly state that no racist/forbidden signs/adultery pics etc.. are allowed to be used, and in case they use it indeed that results in a /permanent/ ban, then there shall be no problem with avatars.

Maybe you are got used to not to see avatars and I got used to use them always. But a change in the outlook now and then is always healthy
