This post was part of a foursome from a previous thread. (which is not available anymore?)
It was in the wrong place anyway so I decided to bring the main point back just to show that trinity doctrine never has been part of the original gospel. Jesus never said He was god-incarnated-in-the-flesh.
IMO, this is the most tricky passage in NT because the allusion comes pretty close to it but still it ain’t what He said;
god-the-son; “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.”
Philip; “Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.”
god-the-son; “Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
Believest thou not that I am God, and God is me? The words that I speak unto you I speak of myself, consider it a no-brainer.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these are not possible; because I am God.
Believe me that I am God, and God is me, consider it a no-brainer!”
Now, the gospel as we know it;
Jesus; “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.”
Philip; “Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.”
Jesus; “Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.”
