    Azmi Bishara?

I recently watched a programme on Arab TV about a Palestinian Christian called Azmi Bishara who is a member of the Israeli parliament. (His father was a communist). Im just interested in the opinions of Israelis/Jews about him? if any?

also I have been told that I cannot receive Israeli media on my receiver even though I have digital satellite. Is this true? If so, how can I receive Israeli satellite channels?

A while ago (see dates of original posts) we discussed Bishara and the issues of free speech:

I would say that there is a very negative perception of him because of specific acts of his which can be considered treasonous. For example, Bishara called on Israel's enemies to persist in attacking Israel. He is also known to be aligned with the Syrian Baath party and various terrorist groups, as well as with having ties to Hizbullah, if I remember correctly.

Nonetheless, he is still a member of Knesset due to the overly liberal Israeli democracy and an overly broad definition of free speech, which is afforded to all Israeli citizens.

As for Israeli satellite, do you mean TV or radio?

    considered treasonous

-but are not treason? WTF is that? What are the parliamentary rules that can get someone tossed out? Are there even enforceable laws to prosecute this? It's one thing to speak metaphorically to 'continue this struggle' or that one or 'resist the opposition' but those are political terms.

I can't imagine though that if an MK gets up on the floor or in the press and tells a bunch of murdering thugs "Good job boyos, keep it up!" That there is nothing that can be done about it. Censure? Expulsion from the Knesset? I'm not even talking about criminal statutes but there has to be some standard no?

uve both answered the exact Qs i had in mind. thanks. although it seems a little strange as to why he wasnt kicked out. am i wrong in thinking the israelis are just using him and his presence, with limited power, because its actually "good" for israel's outlook?

if u fancy visiting i found this site from June 02:

    www.azmibishara.info/content.html

-After the killing of three Israeli soldiers, he called Hizbollah (Lebanon-based terror group that attacks civilians in Israel's northern cities) "a brave organization that has taught Israel a lesson." (Bishara's punishment: He was unanimously reelected as party chairman by 500 delighted Israeli-Arab delegates who heard him give this statement)

-On June 8, 2000, at a 'victory convention' in the Israeli-Arab town of Um el Fahm, he announced to a crowd of Arab listeners that "The Hizbullah has won, and for the first time since 1967 we have tasted the sweet taste of victory. The Hizbullah should be proud of their achievement and of humiliating Israel." (Here Bishara unambiguosly states that both he and all Arab-Israelis ('we') identify most closely with a terror organization that was responsible for the murders of dozens of Israelis, both soldiers and civilians.)

The article Liars Among Us makes reference to Bishara's falsification of the historic connection between Arabs and the Nazis in WWII.

The wise and intelligent Bishara decribes Syria's Assad as "wise, brave and adhered to the firm principles of nationalism and Pan-Arabism." To this end here's Bishara the Pan-Arabist.

Feel free to add to the list. Someone here actually used the word "intelligent" in reference to this piece of filth.

    Several options

    the best :
Put him in front of a wall ,no blindfolds, a squad of Israeli soldiers or armed volunteers at the ready..

    for leftists or moderates..
Deport him and his family to Gaza

    Pesach kasher to everyone

on a visit to syria he praised palestinian terror groups and their tactics. when he returned to israel rightfully angry MKs demanded he be barred from the knesset. bishara twisted this around to make it look as though arab israelis are never treated fairly in israeli institutions and claimed he's being persecuted for his political beliefs. bishara is a traitor to israel. surely he will be better off in syria or lebanon since he speaks of these countries and their leaders with much admiration.
