Protests Against Ahmadinejad in New York
    23 Elul 5768, 23 September 08 10:12by Nissan Ratzlav-Katz(IsraelNN.com)

Over one thousand people, including Israeli VIPs, protested on Monday afternoon against the presence of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in New York City. He is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly's opening session on Tuesday. A second anti-Ahmadinejad rally has been called for Thursday to protest a religious dialogue dinner the Iranian president has been invited to attend.

Monday's protest at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza was organized and attended by a coalition of Jewish organizations brought together to condemn Ahmadinejad's denial of the Holocaust and his threats to perpetrate a new one by "wiping Israel from the map." The Iranian government has thus far thwarted efforts to prevent it from acquiring the nuclear weapons it is seeking, which Iranian leaders have warned could be used to destroy Israel.

In addition to members and supporters of the Jewish groups behind the rally, there was a large contingent of local high school students and Iranian expatriates, the latter carrying large signs with pictures of political prisoners held, tortured and executed by the Iranian regime. Demonstrators waved Israeli and American flags, chanted "Stop Iran Now" and held signs with messages that included "No Nuclear Iran", "Zero Tolerance for Islamofascists" and "Bomb Bushehr".

Among the high-profile participants were Knesset Speaker Dalia Itzik, former Soviet prisoner and Israeli cabinet minister Natan Sharansky, former Canadian Justice Minister Irwin Cotler, and Nobel prize-winning author Elie Wiesel.

Instead of attending the opening ceremony at the United Nations, Ahmadinejad should be on trial in an international courtroom for "propagating genocidal policies," Wiesel said. "He's not Hitler - nobody is Hitler," added the noted Holocaust survivor, "but he wishes to follow in Hitler's footsteps and that makes him an arch-criminal."

Wiesel urged world leaders to leave the General Assembly hall when Ahmadinejad speaks on Tuesday. "President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran is a threat to world peace.... Our message to him is 'go home, go home and stay there,' " said Wiesel.

Other speakers at the protest echoed Wiesel's remarks and said Ahmadinejad should be shunned by the international community.

    Ahmadinejad Invited to 'Religious Dialogue'

Undermining the efforts of anti-Ahmadinejad forces to isolate the Iranian ruler, a coalition of American Christian organizations has invited Ahmadinejad to be the featured guest at a dinner billed as a religious dialogue. The event - put together by the American Friends Service Committee, the Mennonite Central Committee, the Quaker UN Office, Religions for Peace, and the World Council of Churches - is slated to take place at the Grand Hyatt Hotel on Thursday night. The president of the U.N. General Assembly, Miguel d’Escoto Brockmann, is expected to take part in the dinner as well.

A coalition of Jewish and non-Jewish groups is planning to greet the dinner meeting with another demonstration against the Iranian president. Among the groups behind the September 25th protest are the Jewish Action Alliance, Stand With Us, the Israel Project, Americans for a Safe Israel, the Center for Security Policy, the Catholic League, Rabbi Potasnik of the New York Board of Rabbis, the Traditional Values Coalition and the Alliance of Iranian Women.
"These religious leaders are about to betray their brethren across all religions, parties and countries by honoring the tyrannical regime of Ahmadinejad and the Iranian mullahs of this terrorist state," protest organizers said.

Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been invited to speak at the interfaith rally, along with other politicians.

The dinner honoring Ahmadinejad prompted the American Jewish Committee to send a letter to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon protesting Brockmann's planned attendance. The AJC noted that Ahmadinejad has violated the U.N. Charter by calling for the elimination of a U.N. member state, Israel, as well as contradicting a General Assembly resolution against denying the Holocaust.

    Tehran Highlights the Fringe

The Iranian government-controlled English-language newspaper Tehran Times mentioned the protests, but highlighted a statement by the tiny Jewish fringe organization, Neturei Karta, warmly greeting Ahmadinejad.

"It has been our honor and privilege to meet with President Ahmadinejad.... We have found the Iranian President to be a deeply religious man, dedicated to a peaceful world, based on mutual respect, fairness and dialogue. Out of great respect to the Iranian Nation and their leadership we proudly welcome the Honorable President Ahmadinejad to New York, WELCOME!" read the statement by Neturei Karta leader Yisroel Dovid Weiss.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Watch organization held a briefing on Ahmadinejad's Iran at the Millennium U.N. Plaza Hotel on Monday. The HRW panel charged that Iran regularly carries out practices that violate internationally recognized human rights. Specifically cited were the execution of juveniles accused of crimes and the imprisonment of peaceful dissidents.

New York could use a new parking garage. This would be a prime site. Move the UN to the EU where this organization of tyranny appeasers would feel more comfortable. Withdraw US membership and worry about better relations in other areas.

Larry King is really the worst. I don't get why that dinosaur is still on. Drudge reported that the new far left talk show host, on MSNBC already beat him in his time slot.

    Tonight we dine in Hell

    http://www.hurryupharry.org/2008/09/...ejad/#comments

Today, at an event co-organised with the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, the Quakers will sit down for dinner with President Ahmadinejad:
In New York on Thursday, several international political and religious leaders will meet for an iftar dinner, which marks the end of each day’s fasting during Ramadan. After dinner, speakers from Muslim, Christian, and Jewish traditions will discuss the role of religious faith in responding to major challenges, such as poverty, injustice, global warming, and war. A major purpose is to continue dialogue with the Iranian people and their president.
This is our fourth meeting with the Iranian president over the past three years. Each meeting has made me hopeful for what could happen if the U.S. participated in a diplomacy without preconditions with the Iranian government. I have great hopes that this dialogue continues to build understanding between our two countries and will allow time for a frank and honest exchange of views.
Here are Ahmadinejad’s views, expressed during his visit to the United Nations:
Great developments in favor of humankind as well as its true and real rights are on the way. A golden and brilliant future is awaiting mankind.
“A global community filled with justice, friendship, brotherhood and welfare is at hand, as I have elaborated. A community which will tread the path of beauty and love under the rule of the righteous and perfect human being, the One promised by all divine prophets and the One who is the true lover of humanity. A community that will be devoid of any fear, despair and privation.
“Such a community will soon be ours. The community promised by the great divine Prophets Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus Christ and Mohammad (PBUH) is about to materialize.
“Let us, hand in hand, expand the thought of resistance against evil and the minority of those who are ill-wishers. Let’s support goodness and the majority of people who are good and the embodiment of absolute good that is the Imam of Time, The Promised One who will come accompanied by Jesus Christ, and accordingly design and implement the just and humanistic mechanisms for regulating the constructive relationships between nations and governments.
“Oh great Almighty, deliver the savior of nations and put an end to the sufferings of mankind and bring forth justice, beauty, and love.
“Let’s have a proper share in the establishment of that illuminated and promised divine age.”
But who is preventing this “divine age” from dawning, by standing in the way of Iran’s nuclear programme? Can you guess?
The dignity, integrity and rights of the American and European people are being played with by a small but deceitful number of people called Zionists. Although they are a minuscule minority, they have been dominating an important portion of the financial and monetary centers as well as the political decision-making centers of some European countries and the US in a deceitful, complex and furtive manner.
“It is deeply disastrous to witness that some presidential or premiere nominees in some big countries have to visit these people, take part in their gatherings, swear their allegiance and commitment to their interests in order to attain financial or media support.
“This means that the great people of America and various nations of Europe need to obey the demands and wishes of a small number of acquisitive and invasive people. These nations are spending their dignity and resources on the crimes and occupations and the threats of the Zionist network against their will.
Yes, it is those pesky world-controlling “Zionists”.
Meanwhile, back in Iran, the Government is staging an International Exhibition of the Quran, where you can see horrendously Islamophobic exhibits, which echo the disgraceful MoToons, by suggesting that there’s a connection between the Quran and the desire to kill apostates and Jews

Protestors From More Than 60 Groups to Rally Against Ahmadinejad "Peace" Dinner in NYC

Protesters from more than 60 national religious and political organizations are scheduled to gather outside a “peace” dinner for Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in New York City at 6 p.m. today (Sept. 25) in front of the Grand Hyatt Hotel, 109 East 42nd St. The “Rally Against Ahmadinejad,” will feature speakers such as Richard Land of The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, Rabbi Avi Weiss of AMCHA – The Coalition of Jewish Concerns, and Bill Donohue of the Catholic League for Civil and Religious Rights.
The dinner with Ahmadinejad – billed as “Has Not One God Created Us? The Significance of Religious Contributions to Peace” – is hosted by American Friends Service Committee, the Mennonite Central Committee, the Quaker United Nations Office, Religions for Peace and the World Council of Churches – United Nations Liaison Office. Besides Ahmadinejad, other speakers at the dinner include Miguel D’Escoto Brockmann, president of the General Assembly of the United Nations and the Rev. Kjell Bondevik, former prime minister of Norway and president of the Oslo Center for Peace and Human Rights.

On their official website, the protest rally organizers state, “The religious groups meeting with Iranian President Ahmadinejad September 25 are being used to give legitimacy to one of the world’s greatest violators of human and religious rights. Our mission is to expose the truth of the current Iranian regime’s crimes against humanity, and to deny them that false legitimacy.” Full list of rally organizers
The dinner comes two days after Ahmadinejad addressed the U.N. General Assembly, telling world leaders gathered for the annual event, “[The] American empire in the world is reaching the end of its road…” and “Today, the Zionist regime is on a definite slope to collapse, and there is no way for it to get out of the cesspool created by itself and its supporters.”
Said The Israel Project (TIP) Founder and President Jennifer Laszlo Mizrahi, "If Iran is for peace, why do they keep sending weapons and funds for Hezbollah, Hamas and other terrorists who collectively have launched almost 10,000 rockets, missiles and mortars at Israel since Israel gave up all of Gaza three years ago? If Iran is for peace, why has Iran promised to share its nuclear know-how with other countries? This is a man who is responsible for the deaths of innocent people around the world. The international community needs deeds from Ahmadinejad - deeds of peace - not more rhetoric about peace.”

TIP is currently running TV ads in the New York City area (Ad #1, Ad #2) about the threat of Iran and has put out fact sheets about the danger of the regime.
Despite numerous and recent reports to the contrary, Ahmadinejad also told the U.N. General Assembly that his country's nuclear program is transparent and has provided "full cooperation" to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The Agency’s reports about Iran – including one released Sept. 15 – have consistently found that Iran has failed to fully cooperate with the IAEA and that it was impossible to determine whether the program is for peaceful purposes as Iran has claimed. [1] The reports have also found that Iran is continuously developing and operating new centrifuges [2] and enriching uranium in violation of several U.N. Security Council resolutions. [3]

Re: Protests Against Ahmadinejad in New York.

I was at the first protest over at the UN, which was poorly executed in my opinion. The Sarah Palin signs, and photos had more kick then anything anyone was saying about Iran. A large portion of the crowd were Yeshiva kids on what looked to be school field trips. I was impressed though by the wide range in ages that showed up. There were a fair number of older Jews, in suits, who looked to have arrived during their lunch hour to take part. Unfortunately once you got there, it was impossible to tell where stage was, and the side street where you could stand in front of speakers and at least listen in were filled with kids posing for pictures with their protest signs, and Israeli flags. It was a little too social for the seriousness of the topic. There wasn't really anyone interesting who talked, and they weren't saying anything of real substance that was going to stir up any emotion. At some point they had to shut down the entrance because most of the crowd was trying to exit. There was a more spirited protest happening across the street by the people who couldn't get in, and I'm not sure but I think most of that group were angry former citizens of Iran instead of Jews.

I have a hunch the Hyatt protest was more pointed since he was actually there.
