    Weapons-grade uranium seized

    Snip:

ANKARA, Turkey, Sept. 28 — Turkish paramilitary police have seized more than 15 kg (33 pounds) of weapons-grade uranium and detained two men accused of smuggling the material, the state-run Anatolian news agency said on Saturday.

OFFICERS IN the southern province of Sanliurfa, which borders Syria and is about 250 km (155 miles) from the Iraqi border, were acting on a tip when they stopped a taxicab and discovered the uranium in a lead container hidden beneath the vehicle’s seat, the agency said.
The incident happens at a time of mounting speculation the United States could launch a military attack on neighboring Iraq for its alleged program of weapons of mass destruction.

I think the uranium would be enough to make a crude nuclear bomb.

The scary thing is that they let these guys go because it was not as much uranium as they thought.

"Ok guys, you are smuggling uranium...but not as much as we thought...so go free"

A little uranium here...a little uranium there....until eventually there is enough for a bomb....

This was just reported in Ha aretz as being really a few hundred grams not 15Kg.

The most advanced designs can make a bomb out of 4-5Kg.
