    Netanyahu Warns Lebanon

Netanyahu warns Lebanon against legitimizing Hezbollah

    Published: 07.05.09, 16:47 / Israel News

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that the Lebanese government is working towards legitimizing Hezbollah, and warned that it would bear responsibility for any attacks emanating from its territory.

"The Lebanese government is the sovereign power and therefore any attack from its territory is an act the Lebanese government authorized and sanctioned," Netanyahu said at a cabinet meeting on the threat to the north of Israel.

With this article coming out today, http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle6739175.ece

Looks like Iran is positioning to use Lebanon as a "human shield." I mean, what are the possibilities? Israel is forced to engage Hezbollah in Lebanon, turning attention away from Iran, making Israel look bad, giving even more legitimacy to the Arab countries who are preassuring Israel to act in the best interests of peace, as if they ride the moral high road. In other words, "hey, lets provoke an Israeli attack on Lebanon, it'll take the preassure off of us, and make Israel look bad, who care if innocent Lebanese die."

    Terrible. Breaks my heart.

Hezbollah is an elected part of the government. They can't get away with launching a war and claiming they're a resistance movement.

Bombing Lebanon is not the answer people. 'Wiping Syria off the map', however, very much is.

Why, so Syria becomes a radical Sunni state? Unfortunately, the alternative to Assad is just that and he and Israel know that.

The only solution is to make peace with the Palestinians, which means making sacrifices. Everyone knows that, but they can't agree about the details.

So you belong to those hawks who think that compromise is per definition defeat?

So once the Pal's figure out they need to make sacrifices and when they can figure out and agree to the details, then there might be peace. You are absolutely right!

Israel too needs to make sacrifices, and give up about East Jerusalem and Westbank. That's also what the US is telling Israel.

Why? Are you claiming that all aggression between Israel, Syria, and Lebanon has the Palestine Arab issue at its root.

Or are you claiming that making a peace deal that's respected by both camps will act as a catalyst to a wider peace in that region?

rather the second one. You can see that Hesbollah and Iran use the Palestinian issue as legitimation for its aggression against Israel. The Palestinian issue is also a very sensible one across the Arab world. Once that's solved, it will undermine the legitimacy of organisations as Hesbollah and Hamas, as well as the Iranian foreign policy in the Middle East. Also president Assad said during an interview on BBC that there cant be real peace in the region without a final deal between Israel and palestine, which he would be ready to support if Israel disengages from Golan at the same time.

It's an illusion to think that you can keep the Westbank and Eastern Jerusalem occupied forever while at the same time achieving normalisation of the relations with the Arab world. The Palestinian question is the core issue, and everything else (Hezbollah, Iran, Hamas, etc.) evolved from that problem.

Who cares though. It wont be worse long term, I cant see it being worse personally. They are proxy killing us for decades now. maspiq.... Bombing Lebanon is just plain stupid. We look like a bully, and they loose political control even further, since 'they cant stand up to the Zionist aggressor'. Nothin is accomplished by it. Removing Irans lynchpin, in that pinhead is a serious development toward the positive. Keeping it positive is a strategic decision. Israel doesn't have any recognizable strategy since it plainly defaults all decision to the Americans. So realistically I'm saying two things. get off the American dole and start doing things strategically worthwhile to you not the petrodollar market or American (French, British, Russian etc) ideals in the region.
