Israeli wins seat on Fatah council

    From the Jerusalem Post:

As the Fatah Elections Committee came close on Saturday to completing a recount of last week's vote following accusations of fraud and the subsequent dismissal of several counters, it appeared that Israeli candidate Uri Davis had won a seat on the party's Revolutionary Council....Davis, a 66-year-old academic, is an outspoken critic of his country and identifies himself as a Palestinian Hebrew-speaking citizen of what he calls "the apartheid state of Israel."...

"If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand wither, let my tongue cleave to my palate if I do not remember you, if I do not set Jerusalem above my highest joy." (Ps. 137: 5-7)"

"Any generation in which the Temple is not built, it is as if it had been destroyed in their times" (Yerushalmi, Yoma 1a).

He converted to Islam per Fatah requirements, years ago. He also gave up his Israeli citizenship years ago. He's no more Israeli than I am no more Jewish than Karl Marx.

There is a handful of these... there is that convert in Gaza. I hope they are the first to get it in a War. They very much deserve it.

There are also palestinians who love Israel and spy for Israel, very few of them, but they exist. Whenever they get assasinated, it is a proove of how barbarian those palestinians are, etc. but here people call for the death of "traitorous" Jewish Israeli who join the other side... a bit of double standard isn't it?

I remember long time back during the times of the Gorbachev there was some American Jewish family who immigrated from NY to Moscow (forgot their names). I remember Pozner, I believe, interviewed them on television (or was it one of those famous tele-bridges with Donohue?). Everyone we knew could not figure out if these people are on drugs or there is some other failure with their mental capacity.... while everyone was trying to get out they decided to get in.

The funny part was at how they marveled at what they had. The state gave a car, an apartment in the middle of Moscow (some house with a pool and basketball court!!!), jobs in some prestigious places, and what I remember - a computer in their apartment!!!! Basically all things that 99.99% Soviet citizens did not have or would ever have.

Mil, that story reminded me of this movie I saw called Est-Ouest, about Russian emigres returning to their homeland and the horror at what they encountered after they gave up their foreign passports and settled in the Soviet Union.

Uri Davis is the Adam Ghadam of Israel.

Davis is an anti-Semitic traitor who happened to be born as an Israeli, but has not been an Israeli for several decades. Just like Adam Ghadam was born an American and then joined al Qaeda.

You are talking about East-West. A depressing movie. In that movie they showed former immigres returning after WWII for completely different reasons and to a country ruled by Stalin. Here we are talking about some Jews leaving for Moscow in the 1980s.

You have to be from "there" to understand

back in 88 most French or Western European didn't have a personal computer either.
I remember seeing on television a documentory about Russians who joined the Afghan mujahedeen during the 80's, and later joined the Taliban. Not just a few of them, but quite many. It seems the rate was higher among Russians than among Soviet Uzbeks or Tajiks...
By the way some French citizens voluntarily went to live in the former Soviet Union as well, mostly after WWII, while quite some German prisoners of war refused to return even when they had the opportunity in the 50's, most of them had started a family. By the way many ethnic German Russians and Kasakh return to Russia and Kasakhstan, and even some Jews decide to return to Russia/ Belarus/Ukraine/Kasakhstan from Israel.
