In this case it's almost patronising.

He was nominated after being in office for 11 days. Best comment I heard was the comparison with an Oscar being given to an unnamed actor for a film yet to be made. I also heard that the award was for the best actor to play the role of the messiah in the last 100 years.

Seriously, the kind of prize given to Obama really has nothing to do with accomplishments. It's not like the Nobel prize given in other categories where someone actually has had to produce in their field. This one is more like the prize in a cereal box. You can get it by chance.

Obama is the president of the biggest military power in the world and is waging two wars in the world. So he deserves Nobel Peace Prize according to you ?

Does he have to accept it?

He could be humble and claim unworthiness.

    Imagine that outcome!

    Massive swooning the world over.

It's two fingers to Bush. Obama could be a former crack dealer with turrets and they'd have still given it to him.

    Palin, Vaughn, Rabinowitz Win Awards

At the same time, and amazingly enough, the Pulitzer Prize for Literature went to Sarah Palin for her stated intention “to read a book someday.” The former Alaska governor was described as “floored” by the award, announced in Stockholm by nude Swedes beating themselves with birch branches, and insisted that while she was very busy right now, someday she would make good on her vow to read a book. “You’ll see,” she said from her winter home in San Diego.

And again in a stunning coincidence, the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences announced the Oscar for best picture will be given this year to the Vince Vaughn vehicle “Guys Weekend to Burp,” which is being story-boarded at the moment but looks very good indeed. Mr. Vaughn, speaking through his publicist, said was “touched and moved” by the award and would do everything in his power to see that the picture lives up to expectation and opens big sometime next March.

Re: Obama wins 2009 Nobel Peace Prize

Even self professed progressives are irked. Of course the kneejerk Iranian apologists like Greenwald and Cole are mouthing the Iranian line and denouncing the award as worthless. On the other hand, recent Swedish official moves against the Jews and Israel portend that the speeches Obama uttered in Africa and Cairo suggesting a new American position vis a vis the Arab/Muslim world fits nicely with Sweden's official position on Jewish organ stealing and whatnot.

Hey they couldn't award the Nobel to Ahmadinejad with a straight face , could they? And now just wait and see, Iranian paid 'pundits' will start.....can you guess.....? Blaming the Jews for manipulating the outcome.

Re: Obama wins 2009 Nobel Peace Prize

Other than well-crafted speeches I'm yet to see Obama produce anything of substance. Certainly nothing that would warrant such an award. Then again, the Peace Prize has always been a bit of a joke, so I suppose I can forgive this absurdity.

Re: Obama wins 2009 Nobel Peace Prize

Even past Nobel laureates are criticising the award to Obama.

Me, I'm about as surprised that Obama got the award as I was when Yasser Arafat receiving the same award.

Seeing that Obama received the award with absolutely ZERO accomplishments towards peace (or anything else actually), I can only conclude that the entire Nobel peace award system is nothing but a political sham.

Just for the record, let's see what our Nobel peace laureate has actually accomplished:

War in Iraq: Zero movement toward peace. Absolutely no progress.

War in Afghanistan: Zero movement toward peace. Absolutely no progress. Taliban set to resume control of the country.

War against radical Islamic terrorism: Zero movement toward peace. Absolutely no progress. More bombings than ever, and al Qaeda is regrouping and operating on a large scale in the US since the Obama regime came to power.

Arab/Israeli conflict: Zero movement toward peace. Absolutely no progress. The Arabs countries have announced that they will not normalize relations with Israel, the Palestinians have escalated their rocket attacks on Israeli population centers, and Jerusalem is about to explode.

Iranian nuclear bomb: Zero movement toward a peaceful resolution. Absolutely no progress.

North Korea nuclear threat: Zero movement toward a peace resolution. Absolutely no progress. In fact, they've launched a string of nuclear-capable missile tests capable of hitting the US.

African genocide: Zero movement toward peace. Absolutely no progress.

Mexican drug-lord border violence: Zero movement toward a peaceful resolution. Absolutely no progress.

Hmmm... With zero accomplishments, why would anyone be surprised that Obama is being awarded the highest award for peace?

Just another nail in the coffin for the Nobel organization. After Arafat is there any reason to pay attention? Purely political agit prop... soft power in the most repulsive way possible: the rotting carrot.
